"IF" The Hawks Built A New Arena

I think the location I screenshotted above would be perfect.

- The U already owns every bit of it. Don't have to pay someone $50M for land.

- Plenty of parking room.

- Iowa HOF right there and could stay there.

- Could probably even be done without moving tennis and XC facilities.

- Mormon Trek connects to 218/380 both north and southbound, and Hwy 6/2nd St. main drag to the north which also connects to 218/380/Riverside.

-Melrose connects to 218/380 north and southbound.

-PLENTY of room for nightlife/hotel/food/shopping development.
Good luck getting students there

They are going to renovate CHA. Adding luxury suites to an arena built into ground seems pricey, but I am not an engineer or an architect so what the f*ck do I know. Chopping the capacity from 15,500 to around 12,500, make another run at the Hawks Nest(getting students closer to the court) and adding luxury suites…good chance that it is the way it is heading.
suites aren't the answer. Getting the seats closer to the floor is. Good luck with that, The bowl design was inherently flawed. Only solution is to rip out and lower the floor. That ain't happenin'

I saw online (don't remember where) someone who was talking about CHA brought up that they've remodeled below ground bowls into multi-levels with suites before and it worked fine. Basically they fill the bowl in most of the way and build upwards above ground like a normal arena. Adding dirt as fill is cheaper and easier than digging down farther.

The problem is not a lack of suites. It's the distance between the playing floor and the seating and all the aisles at ground level.

Right, but my point is that if they want to modernize CHA, it’s not like they’re stuck with the hike in the ground bowl configuration. Fill it in and build it up from there like has been done with other arenas.

If they want a better arena and don’t want to move, then go play temporarily in CR for a couple years and rebuild it.

There’s nothing saying CHA has to stay a big hole in the ground.

And I strongly disagree with lack of suites not being a problem. Humongous money maker and they would be filled just like the ones in Kinnick.

It is easier to get and/or add more corporate sponsorship with suites. Remember, you have to pay athletes now, so you need all the revenue streams you can get.

The women’s basketball game against USC last year… I remember thinking to myself this would be even more awesome if Bluder and CC were in a suite together chopping it up and we got to see it. Not every 5 seconds that we see with Taylor Swift, but it would have been cool to see.

Makes sense.
