I call BS...it is the head coaches job to get his team ready to play. It is up to the D1 athletes to man up and play the game to win. Here in SW Iowa it was clear they had terrible practices before they left for San Diego...and they laid an egg. There is no excuse for not being prepared to play in a bowl game. Iowa could of felt slighted too..I mean we had better records then some of the teams in front of us...
Just because it shouldn't happen (in theory) doesn't change the fact that it does. They absolutely blasted Washington earlier in the year. It's pretty tough to take a team that you've already blown away seriously, especially when you're already disappointed about not meeting expectations.
In some cases, getting jobbed in the bowl selection gets a team to play with a chip on its shoulder (see Oregon 2001). But then when you're playing a team you beat by 5 TD's, that feeling kind of disappears.
