I really wish Jon would answer these questions.....

1. Why do you feel "dirty" about what you were saying in 2014 when more than ever what you were saying has turned out to be 100% true? Does that mean pissed off Iowa fans are dirty right now for picking back up our 2014 torches and pitchforks when we can all plainly see that we are in for pure agonizing hell all over again due to Barta once again falling for a another "Smoke and mirrors" trick by Ferments? Are you a cut above us rank amateurs?

2. You say that we cannot be expected to be Ohio State or Michigan. OK, fine. But once again, then why is Ferments being paid like a coach who is expected to actively recruit and SIGN blue chip prospects....AND contend for National Championships? And why has the question never been raised that Ferments NEVER speaks of National Championships as a goal? And I mean never!!! How many other 4.5 mil per year coaches could get away with that? So 4.5 mil buys you 7-5 expectations just because he does things the "right way"??? You know, the "right way"....like trying to sneak his kid into subsidized housing?

I remember his podcasts in 2014, and he was pretty close to calling for the head of Ferments....now his love seems to be staying in good graces.

Jon & Rob will always tow the company line. They really have no choice as fans want to hear only good news. That's why they can never mention any of the half-dozen major scandals or dozen-plus minor scandals that have occurred with a Saint in charge. And if they do mention them it will only be to minimize them. No one wants to admit the University had to settle several lawsuits with Kirk (and Gary) in charge.

I myself have stated I don't care about that stuff as long as we are winning. But that contract was the final straw for me. Everyone knew what was coming next after it was announced. The only people who didn't were Gary & Kirk . . . and I'm certain they didn't care what would happen next.

He can't bite the hand that feeds him unless the mob has the odds like it did in 2014 and will again in 2017. With this recruiting class tanking I see little hope of anything better than the ol' 7-5. I want Kirk to be successful but I am realist and the product on the field is not acceptable. I don't expect to be Michigan or OSU but I do expect to be on par with MSU and Wisky and we aren't.

Does anyone happen to know KF's record the years after he has signed a contract extension? He is like a playing free agent in a contract year. Every time he needs to get extended, it's time to put together a good year.

MSU isn't proven to be ahead of Iowa long term yet. Similar to early KF.

1. I have said repeatedly I was and am fine with the things I was critical about. If i could have a do over, I would have been less petulant with some of the things I said and did...like not tweeting something like this, and not playing The Doors 'The End' song as an intro and outro bed on my post-Nebraska podcast, and not calling Kirk 'gutless' for not having CJB and Rudock speak after the Tax Slayer Bowls. Unprofessional things of that nature. That is what I have tried to explain...not that I would change the core critiques, just the presentation could have been more respectful and professional.

2. I am of the opinion it is hard to win at Iowa. I am of the opinion that Kirk is worth what he earns. I am of the opinion that adding additional buyout language to the extension wasn't the best thing to do, but it is what it is, and nothing can change it, and I am not going to whine and moan about it the next 10 years. I'd like to see Iowa get to the point where it can sustain higher levels of success for longer periods of time, three years out of five...any more than is unrealistic in my opinion. I think folks tend to think that Iowa should be immune or above such lulls...which I reject, as Michigan, Tennessee, Florida, UCLA, Penn State, etc, ie traditional blue blood powers, have not been beyond such lulls the past decade.

5-3 is a disappointing mark at this point in time for this season, no doubt. But the whole what Kirk earns stuff is just a tiring topic to me. As is how quickly people forget they just experienced a 12-0 regular season and Iowa's first trip to Pasadena in 25 years. I guess I'm not wired like that camp...doesn't make me better or worse, we just see things differently...and I don't feel moved to grab the pitchfork and torches.

All D1 college coaches are paid too much for what they offer to society, or do to employee other people and impact society. Way too much. Yes sports are an economic engine in college towns, but it's the product, and institutions that bring the value, not placeholders of specific jobs, at points in time.

That said, what some jokers conveniently forget is that 1. Ferentz isn't paid as much as some other programs pay their coach, and 2. he has been at the same institution as a head coach for nearly two decades. With that comes annual increases(just like any, well most, employers do). Should someone at peer institutions make the same, or more, with less seniority or experience, and in almost every case less career accomplishment? This isn't a commissioned based sales job.

You can site OSU, or Mich, or Bama, you can site others with comparable accomplishment and experience, you can slice it anyway you want. The fact is being at one institution for 18 years, with the most conference coach of the year awards as any in Big 10 history, with national coach of the year awards, with multiple bowl games, with several runs at contending for a title deep into a year, and on and on....the market, and merit, warrants what he is paid. However, the market is insanely out of control....for those at the top, and those at the bottom end of a D1 power 5 school. Those that bring up the money seem petty, jealous and out of touch to me.

In support of Jon's opinion regarding KF and his salary and stability, I offer the following names (off the top of my head):

Tom Davis
Dan McCarney
Frank Solich
Glen Mason
Joe Tiller
Phil Fulmer
Gene Chizik
Mark Richt
LLoyd Carr
Les Miles

Other than LSU (which remains to be seen), think about what the disarray those programs became for 5-10 years after they were let go.

Be thankful for the successes we've had and for gosh sakes, quit bitching about not being 12-0 every year.

Why is the buy out clause necessary? Smacks of pure greed. That is on Ferentz. I am sure Iowa did not initiate the buy out provisions. The only reason for a buy out clause is to be able to grab millions for: #1. Failing at your job and #2. Getting paid millions to do nothing. In addition, those provisions put Iowa in a very bad financial position as far as hiring a new coach if necessary. Seems Kirk is not quite the wonderful guy portrayed by some. He does not need the buy out provisions in the contract as the University of Iowa has already proved that they are ok with mediocre seasons as long as there is a good one here and there.

they are mirror images, have been for years....only the johnny come lately crowd with short term, reactionary view on the world fail to understand this.
Since 2010...

Dantonio: 3 B1G Championships
2010: 11-2 / B1G Champions
2011: 11-3 / Won Outback Bowl
2012: 7-6 / Won Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl
2013: 13-1 / B1G Champions / Won Rose Bowl
2014: 11-2 / Won Cotton Bowl
2015: 12-2 / B1G Champions / Lost in CFP

Ferentz: No B1G Championships
2010: 8-5 / Won Insight Bowl
2011: 7-6
2012: 4-8
2013: 8-5
2014: 7-6
2015: 12-2

Kind of looks like they're mirror opposites.
