I have spoken to several former Iowa Football players today

LOL. Yeah, I saw a LOT of 'critical thinking' pan out in December.

That's another fancy term for 'I disagree with you, my viewpoint is the right viewpoint, I am objective, you are a homer, you are not objective, and you are wrong'

Because I am not saying there is NOTHING to see here..the number of players sticks out, which means there needs to be more answers. But in LIEU of anything concrete, some are flipping out, running off with theories and things like that, most of which will likely prove to be inaccurate and somewhat damaging That's the stuff I don't care for.

This is sickening. So what you are saying it is better that 12 football players are hospitalized so they don't run out of gas when they play football. Seriously stop and think about that for a minute.
 
As far as those that immediately take the sinical view, most of which are not even fans of Iowa, I would say that a lot of that is jealousy of the program and trying to find anything negative in attempt to bring it down. Yes, it's a concern, but ultimately I think it could be a result of not keeping yourself hydrated. It's as simple as that imo.

There could be factors beyond these, too, including environmental (air quality, malfunctioning HVAC equipment).

Not jealousy, not sinical. And the fact that they are not hak fans gives them a little less bias in the situation. I am not a hawk fan but I would react just the same if this happened with ISU. I can't believe how many people poo poo this like nothing rwrong happened.

The fact is 12 players were hospitalized. That is not okay. 1-2 happens every once in a while but not a lot. 12 never happens. It is odd to say the least and it should be seriously looked into. even if it was dehydration, the staff shoul dbe monitoring and giving opportunitites to hydrate. I have done that with my players. It isn't that hard.

Listen I know ISU would love an 8-5 season but we aim just a little bit higher over on this side of the state. The finish to last season was unacceptable, obviously they've stepped up to the training program to try and fix this. I don't see anything wrong with trying to get better.

I agree and disagree to an extent with all the posts and to the extent the workout was punishment, I agree it wouldn't be used as punishment but can be more to send a message. I didn't play DI, but have had several coaches us tougher workouts, extra running, sprints, lifting etc. to send a message if they werent happy about a peformance or lack of effort etc. I think its a combination of factors, that previous posts mentioned, but as with all that happens we'll never know the exact details because of the privacy regulations that must be followed.
 
hawkeyemike, i agree with the clown fan. basically you think its better to put 12 kids in the hospital so they don't get gased at the end of games. you do know football isn't ALL there is to life, right? if not, maybe you should check your values
 
Will be interesting to hear what the reason is at this point no one really knows except those involved with it.

Even if it means putting kids in the hospital? Gotcha. Plenty of schools get well conditioned athletes without putting them in the hospital to acheive the results. As a matter of fact, Iowa has done this quite a bit. I don't recall 12 guys going to the hospital after going 6-6 and before going 9-4 or 11-2.

There's a difference between 12 guys were exhausted and tired, and 12 guys were in the hospital with a potentially life threatening condition. A player's health should ALWAYS come first. I'd rather go 8-5 and have everybody stay healthy, than 13-0 with guys dying of kidney failure.

Exactly. We will get the "Chris Doyle is highly respected in his field and one of the best in the business. This is a training method we have used for x years and we have never had this issue. We are uncertain as to what caused the hospitalization but we are looking into the matter and we will take measures to ensure it will never happen again. Thank you for coming."

That's what scares me. If we can only go 9-4 with kids who can handle this drill, what are we going to go with this bunch of kids.

I have absolutely no problem with a statement like that.

Maybe throw in some "there is nothing more important than the safety of our guys" type comments.

The presence of a doctor from the U of I leads me to believe we'll get a little bit more than "status quo".
