Hmm. Maybe I'm Off My Rocker but.....

You can always look for reasons why an unknown player will be good or look for reasons why he will be bad. All the points I've seen from both sides make sense. But why try so hard to convince other fans how bad a player is going to suck? Maybe he will suck, who knows. It just seems weird to me to try so hard to convince people he will suck, all the while blowing off every reason other people point out for why he might be good.

I don't think CW sucks or is going to suck. To expect him to be an upgrade from our PG play last year is just unrealistic though and that's all I'm saying

This reminds of a guy that I haven't seen around for some time - glidinghawk... Banned? He would come back to the same argument on every thread and really couldn't let it go. People didn't necessarily disagree with him but it was like nothing else mattered or that anyone else had an opinion.

BTW CW has a ways to go before he proves he's as good as MG or Marble... his body of work isn't there for objective evidence. As a recruit, the knock on CW was that he was coming from a smaller high school that normally played in a small school division, so coaches aren't sure how his game would/will translate to D1. The only real knock on Marble was his age and size...the potential talent was there and was demonstrated against good talent - although not dominating... but coaches weren't sure if he'd be able to withstand D1 rigors and many thought - due to his age - he needed another year to prove otherwise. At that time Iowa couldn't afford to be picky and with the legacy, he was worth the risk.

Marble had a Dayton and Providence offer by June before his senior year, it's not like we took a flier on him. If I remember correctly he blew up the final AAU circuit after he committed and was said he would have had a lot bigger offers by August

I agree with everything else though. The body of work just isn't there and while people knock on Mike last year if CW could even come close to doing what Mike did last year it would be a huge positive

No way will I predict Williams will finish his career as good as Marble did. Marble improved mire in 4 years than any player I can remember.

I think you guys should watch him as a starter for a season before passing your verdicts on his basketball abilities. Marble was a good player, but he wasn't that good. I remember Marble taking the last shot in lots of games and missing. Gesell has the same type of mindset. I do think I recall Marble taking the last shot one time and making it though. Marble would of been a lot better with better talent around him.

How do I get called a troll on here and this guy doesn't?

I can think of a lot of things to call you, but it wouldn't necessarily be a troll, not that your not. Anyway, there are all kind of people in the world, including myself. When you get up in the morning after doing your business, you should look in the bathroom mirror and tell yourself its a beautiful day. If it bothers you to look at yourself in the mirror, you can skip that part and still tell yourself its a beautiful day. I'm sorry, but the more I think about what the definition of a troll is I guess I would call you a troll. Its kind of interesting what other definitions I can come up with by reading your responses on this board, but it is kind of a waste of time.

You act like I'm some pessimistic miserable person. I think Jok is going to put up 20+ ppg and Cook and Baer will both be 10+ ppg guys and those will be our solid three. I think we're an NIT team but it could be worse. Just because I think we're going to take a step back at the PG position doesn't mean I'm a troll it just means I'm realistic. Look at the info out there.

I don't know how you could possibly say CW as a freshman was better than Marble as a freshman, that just makes no sense.

Thanks for teeing this one up for me 5656, in this situation I'll pretend to be you.

You think Nic Baer is going to average 10ppg this year? How could he possibly average 10ppg he was barely recruited to play D1 basketball out of a Iowa. You think Nic Baer is going to be a better scorer than Jarrod Uthoff was as a redshirt sophmore at Iowa? I just don't understand how anyone could think that!!!

(Well not really you, if I was you I'd say this same post a bunch of times when anyone says anything about Nic Baer).

Baer averaged 4.8ppg in 14.5 ppg. He's a scorer. I assume he's going to be better this year and will play 25+ mpg. I've never seen Cook play at this level but I think he'll get 10+ppg and it's not like he was a McDonald's AA. I could be wrong but I think those are the three logical choices for our top 3 scorers. I haven't heard Moss' name once this off season, CW has never been a scorer, Wagner will be more of a garbage man I think, Bohannon I don't think is going to be much of a contributor, Jones is coming off an injury and no clue on the rest of the guys. Uhl could be a guy that could score more than Cook and Baer but I like Cook and Baer more

But Nic Baer averaged only 15 points a game in Iowa HS hoops. You used this argument against CW so I figured it applied here. Literally it's almost too easy destroying your arguments I kind of enjoy it, but at the same time you ruin almost every thread.

What's funny here is that you actually think I'm arguing that Nic Baer can't score 10 pts a game. I wouldn't be surprised if he does, I think he's capable. Move along troll man!

I used HS and PTL stats to show CW has never been a scorer. I never said he couldn't be. Baer showed last year he was.

That's pretty funny. It shows that you can always find ways to debate the other side. Like I've said before, I don't see anything wrong with the points 5656 is making. It's just dumb how adiment he is.

Hey I think there is a "decent" chance he ends up as good as Marble. I didn't say he won't. I just said I won't predict it. Big difference there. I also would have never predicted Marble would end up as good as he did after how he looked his freshman year.

I think he will end up being better than Marble. I'm not trying to knock you, but some of the really negative posters are pretty boring. I think you should let the player show what he has got before downgrading him. I prefer to be an optimistic fan unless evidence proves it to be otherwise. There is plenty of evidence that he has the ability to excel at the point guard position for Iowa.

Such as?

Marble was on a worse team and still had a higher field goal percentage and still had a better assist to turnover ratio. Thanks for proving my point

Boy you are dense. Marble had to do that because of the team he was on. Iowa really had no other options. Gatens the same way. Gatens had good numbers because didn't have much around him. He was a very all around solid player. If on a different team with better players around him, Gaten's numbers would probably have gone down but he would of helped his team more.

You know what I think, I think this comparison and discussion should really be tabled until after this year then picked up again. Seriously, you can't really compare last year when he was behind a senior and they really may not have used him like they might this year. They might utilize him a bit different this year.

I don't think there is enough to go on to really compare at this point.
