if Kirk was named coach when Hayden was, he never would have turned this program around. It was already set up for Kirk when he was hired & I doubt Bump would have let Kirk get away with what he has. Best thing that ever happened to Kirk was Gary Barta, his own guradian angel.

This is total revisionist history. Kirk walked into a total rebuild. Hayden went from kicking ISU's butt for 15 years to getting blown out 27-9 in IC by a 3-8 ISU team. The quality of program was elevated under Fry a ton but whoever was taking over was absolutely not "set up".

And, yes we DO realize that "KF is the winningest coach in Iowa Football" history.....just how long is the mileage on that tired ass excuse? I know we are talking about two different programs, but I damn sure know that if KF had been the coach at Michigan the last ten years, you would have been turning over tables 4-5 years ago and calling for his head.....especially had Michigan been playing a NAIA non-conference schedule along with a a pathetic Big 10 West. You are doing the SAME exact thing that you just got done ripping Tom Izzo for in your podcast.

And Jon, help is NOT "on the way"....where do you get that crap? If we had any kind of recruiting at WR, we could work around some of the deficiencies at OL. I'm really not sure that our current QB is the answer to be honest, but that will be determined at a much later date. The only time that I'll get the feeling that help is truly "on the way", is when I hear that Barta is no longer AD. Until then, expect more of the same crap.

The last 1/3 of the HF era is pretty much revisionist history. Look, the man built modern Iowa football from nothing.No doubt about that. But his last 7 seasons in Iowa City weren't pretty (after his last Rose/Holiday Bowl team left). He went 43-38-1 overall and 26-29-1 in the conference.

His best season in that span was 1996. He went 9-3 (6-2) with a road loss to Tulsa and got blown out at home by Northwestern and the Ohio St game wasn't much better. They were down big and got no closer than 12 in that loss.

Also in that 7 year stretch, Iowa only had one season, 1996, where they finished with a winning conference record. They have 3 seasons during that span with a losing conference record and 3 seasons with .500 records.

Also in the two years prior to the Rose/Holiday bowl seasons Fry's teams were 6-4-3 and 5-6. So basically 3 of Fry's final 11 seasons were pretty good: 1990, 1991, 1996 despite each of those season's having an embarrassing loss/tie. In 2 more, 1988 and 1995, Iowa fielded solid teams that won some games although 1988 was the ultimate kiss your sister season. 1989, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1997, & 1998 were total duds.

And BTW, the only reason that Hayden is not the winningest coach in Iowa history is that unfortunately age caught up to him, and recruiting really started to suffer. What is KF's excuse? How many inexcusable losses did Hayden have as double digit favorite? It is no wonder Hayden left Iowa city for a couple days after the KF hiring to avoid saying something unprofessional...he knew then what I've know for going on 20 years....and still know....KF was FAR from the best option. Even KF must have had doubts about himself, taking almost two F'n months to show up in Iowa City because he didn't want to burn his NFL bridges. Not much was ever said about that, but there should have been.

When one stays at a school for so long, of course eventually they will end up being the winningest coach.

Listen, I get as frustrated as anybody with Ferentz at times, but to act like he has no body of work is wrong. He's had some good years and run early to mid 2000's. He's done some unprecedented things at Iowa and Fry was his bar. People have to go back prior to 1979 and compare successes, it's not very impressive, except for Eversheski in the late 50's.

I'm all for constructive criticism of the coaches, but I don't think it's fair to act like he hasn't done anything for a body of work at Iowa.

You can rant all you want. I get a kick out of your post and they include a message which is more impressive. You are absolutely correct. I also don't like some aspects about the team or completely agree with Ferentz's philosophy but I still find watching them entertaining, as frustrating as it is at times.
The guy is a good guy and represents the university well. Kripes, he's not a coaching banging interns on a restaurant table or buying hookers for his players. He's as clean as they come and many universities would like to have him.

I personally haven't given up on Brian as OC yet as he's only 6 games in and I think it takes a first year to learn a lot, but, he has to find a way to manage his dad and think out of the box to go against the trends of the opposing defense.

Particularly if you're spending money that goes to the program. I think there are better ways to voice those frustrations than a message board. Denver's suggestion of not spending money being the best if you seriously want the administration to notice. But the whole point of a message board is to voice opinions. The problem lies with the fact that people can't figure out how to disagree anymore. It turns into a pissing contest in which people refuse to look at the other's POV.
