FERENTZ REACTION: Coach Ferentz Reacts To Reporter Question About Gray | WHOTV.com

Yeesh.

Ferentz: That's a stupid question, you have to admit that, right? 'Out there'? Some guy sitting in the stands says maybe that was a bad call. *******"
Luke Meredith of the AP 'Maybe I could have asked it in a better way."

Ferentz said to that, "Please. If you are going to sit in here every ******* week? please."

I am still of the opinion that I shared early this afternoon that Ferentz wasn't irritated about being asked about Peter Gray, rather, that the reporter chose to ask it in the fashion he did, as in "It's out there...." I think what Kirk was saying about with regards to the 'some guy sitting the stands' comment is if you are going to start asking questions that are 'out there', where does it stop? Are you going to ask questions based on what someone sitting in the stands has to say about play calling, etc.

President mason would not say if the investigation has been turned over to IC Police. I sure hope it has.

I agree with something Rob Howe wrote today...the Peter Gray story just shot into the mainstream in the state now...this afternoon when I mentioned Peter Gray questioning on twitter and Ferentz's reaction, I had a few people tweet at me 'Who is Peter Gray?'

I liek the F word. Very powerful thing.
It's an acronym, you know.

I think you are spot on here Jon. I think his irritation had more to do with the Peter Gray issue which he probably knows little about.

Seems to me some of these "reporters" try to find stories and invite reaction by really asking stuff that doesn't help any situation.

I read the leaked document Saturday AM. I'm sure KF wished he had his comments back, but please, his reaction, a human one, is dwarfed by what Gray is alleged to have done.

I have tow opinions on this. The first, admittedly twisted, is good for KF. The second is where is the media on the leaked report, that alleges criminal behavior?

Criminal. He allegedly fondled a student's genitals. A student with whom he was in a position of authority.

Maybe KF is disgusted by the incident. I can see it. Disgust and frustration, and he unloaded on a reporter.

Exactly. The media does not report the news, they attempt to create the news. (Yes, I am aware that is a generalization)

Or some knuckleheads, upset on message boards..... it's what today's "reporters/journalists" for local news stations/papers do! They have no news gathering skills.... they just regurgitate what they read on these boards, and call it news.

Except I don't think it had anything to do with Gray at all ;) I think Kirk's reaction had everything to do with someone asking a question by leading with 'It's out there'. Had Kirk been asked the question directly and not a reporter using an unnamed or unidentified entity to introduce the topic, I suspect there wouldn't have been any flare up whatsoever.

I took it as more of a man sort of being ticked that another man didn't have the stones to just come out and ask him the question, rather introducing it by saying it was 'out there' which sort of shifts the reason for asking it because of what someone else had said, and then not even saying where you heard it from.

The Gray thing is news. And so is KF losing his cool. Disagree TL. Both fairly major news stories. One more important than the other, but both are newsworthy.

Jon, as someone who deals with KF at a closer level I think you have the best perspective of anyone on the boards. Why do you think this particular event got under KF's skin so much? Is it a culmination of the pressure of a bad season, then having more off-the-field garbage dumped onto his plate? From an amateur perspective his reaction seems like a little overkill for a reporter not having the stones to admit a source.

The other interesting thing to take from this is that Luke Merideth isn't offended by KF's response at all.

I agree Golfer.... the Gray story is huge. I just think KF, genuinely has no idea how it relates to his program. If the brass thought it did, they would have told him not to say anything at all about Gray. He wasn't told anything, obviously, so it wasn't on his radar screen at all.
