Here is video of Ferentz's comments to AP reporter after the pressers

Meredith should have just stated the source straight up rather than saying "I think it was on radio station." Perhaps he assumed Ferentz knew the station had made such a claim. The fact that his question directly related to some thing a media outlet posted, it's ludicrous for Ferentz to liken the claim to someone yelling something in the stands at Kinnick. My feeling is that Ferentz felt threatened by the question and went into defense mode.

I made that observation as well, but in fairness, Jon clarified that during the presser Luke never identified his source to KF.

Hypocritical ****. It's ok for Ferentz to tell someone how to do their job but if one person even hints that he needs to do something different he has a little ***** fit.

This was one of the lead intro stories to their news for the day at 6 PM. So Coach Ferentz getting a little upset is a key new's event? This particular sport's reporter from their station was at the conference today, I believe they stated, and brought what he thought was a key story back with him. He may have thought he was on the forefront of some major new's story but to then see the station run with it as one of their lead-in stories to the 6 PM news was ridiculous. A side story during their sport's segment may have been OK but a lead headline before the news.........geesh is right.

FERENTZ GETS UPSET AT WEEKLY NEWS CONFERENCE..........OH, AND IN OTHER NEWS 4 PEOPLE WERE KILLED IN A HOUSE FIRE IN DES MOINES TODAY.

Not the first time I've seen Chris Hassel do or say some goofy things that just seem out of context at times.

Maybe some good comes of this. Maybe this gets the public ****** off that the U of I hired the criminal back given his previous history.

Would be nice if the idiot reporter actually unintentionally caused some good.

Anyone else feel like Kirk was out of line insinuating the AP guy has some priviledge being at the news conference?

Kirk just seemed bitchy for sure.

Hassel doesn't get the say so to put this story in the A Block and the lead story in the A block at that.

I guess I didn't read it like that. I took it as more of 'Hey, if you are going to be in here every week, don't bring questions like 'It's out there that.....'. Just ask the question.'

I didnt take it that way at all. I took it as him saying, "You're here every ******* week and should know better than to ask a bullspit question like that!"

Yes, that's right. It's amazing this guy ever got to be a head coach with the entitlement mentality that he has. "I'm King Ferentz, how dare you ask me anything that might make me a tad bit uncomfortable."

The media is starting to circle like a rabid bunch of wolves over an injured animal. They sense despair and frustration. The coach is cracking a little and reporters are becoming more bold. Kirk needs to take some off-season action with Davis. If he comes out with another dog crap team, the reporters and fans are going to become that much more emboldened. This thing is like watching a car wreck -- you know there's nothing good to see but you can't help but look at the mayhem unfolding.

FERENTZ REACTION: Coach Ferentz Reacts To Reporter Question About Gray | WHOTV.com

Yeesh.

Ferentz: That's a stupid question, you have to admit that, right? 'Out there'? Some guy sitting in the stands says maybe that was a bad call. *******"
Luke Meredith of the AP 'Maybe I could have asked it in a better way."

Ferentz said to that, "Please. If you are going to sit in here every ******* week? please."

I am still of the opinion that I shared early this afternoon that Ferentz wasn't irritated about being asked about Peter Gray, rather, that the reporter chose to ask it in the fashion he did, as in "It's out there...." I think what Kirk was saying about with regards to the 'some guy sitting the stands' comment is if you are going to start asking questions that are 'out there', where does it stop? Are you going to ask questions based on what someone sitting in the stands has to say about play calling, etc.

I know full well that my opinion matters little (and it shouldn't since I am not an Iowa fan), but I cannot believe that you are defending him, Jon. First, he was just plain rude...I don't think the question that Luke Merridith asked him was that out of line and I don't believe that the 'way he asked' it is why he got so upset. And maybe he (and Iowa) should answer some questions about this guy. Hell, it would be a good time for him to be outraged at this guy.

I know you all love him and his supposed integrity (his son in subsidized housing, a pretty ugly sexual assault cover-up, and rhabdo aside), but he is behaving like a child. He is not above being questioned and the media in this state that has bent over backwards not to do it for most of his reign at Iowa hasn't helped that.

Let's be clear. The only reason you all think the reporters are becoming more bold is because they haven't done their job for most of the time Kirk has been at Iowa. It is not the media's job to kiss Kirk's ring and tell him he is great. It's just not. And anytime they've done it, Kirk has acted like he is above it.

I am not sure why Kirk wasn't expecting a question about a guy that worked with the athletic department who was fired for some pretty ugly things. It would have been pretty easy to say that he was outraged by it and that his players hadn't been around this guy and that was all he was going to say. But he thought that he was 'above' that question?

Look, I get it (I am after all an Iowa State fan). Losing sucks. Losing especially sucks when you have managed to win only 4 games against 10 teams, none of which were ranked when you played them (that part I have a hard time understanding since in a conference as strong as the Big 12, you are lucky if half of your games are against non-ranked teams).
