Hear me out, we have enough data to look at here

I think with good reason that fear exists right? It's not like there are a bunch of Midwest schools who are just thriving and competing for the top of the CFB elite. Knocking on the CFB playoff every season - ND and TOSU are the only 2 that immedaitely come to mind and Iowa is just not on the same footing. Look around you, ISU, MN, WI, NE, KS, KST Missouri, Northwestern, IL, IN, Purdue..... we're not talking about the who's who of elite teams here and that's what should worry anyone about what's next. I don't know where Iowa sits in the new landscape of CFB, but I am guessing a lot closer to the rest of the Midwest vs being ND or TOSU.
Agreed

At the same time when you have one of the worst offenses in college football common sense would dictate that efforts to improve should be at the top of the list.

We did go out and get a QB, tightend, receiver, and linebacker that was anticipated to improve things. I think the offensive concepts need overhauled. Seems like other teams have finally figured out how to shut it down. The seven or eight in the box severely stops the run game.

Data supports you OP, yes. With BF, higher win percentage, although Okeefe had a tough couple years starting from kinda scratch which if he didn't he'd be in the lead win pct wise. In summary, BF as OC allows the offense to hold back the overall success of the team less. Complimentary talk, dunno about that. Team wins and losses, yes, that's how it is, together..

This is an excellent post and really strikes at the heart of my message above. There was concern that Hayden may move to the NFL or go to an elite program. Well it didn’t happen. Then when his health started to slip his energy to recruit dropped off and eventually Hayden was gone. Oh no Iowa football was finished for ever oh no! Who the hell is Kirk. Coaching as an assistant in the NFL and at some poll dunk nothing college. Oh no!!!! Letting Stoops go…….. oh no!!!! The end we imminent oh no!!!!!

If Parker stayed and Kirk and Son left we would be fine. Any coach can match on offense what Kirk and Son have managed to eff up.

The problem is would Parker stay on? Maybe not. That would be a problem. No one wants a shit show like what we have watched at Nebraska. That’s a fear in Hawkeye land. Paralyzed by fear is where we are.

I think you are underestimating how good of a CEO KF is.

The concepts are completely fine and Saturday's game was called very well. I have only been to one game in person the past few years, but at that game (Illinois) it was abundantly clear that the o-line was a shell of a typical Ferentz o-line and that we had absolutely no weapons on that offense outside of LaPorta. If your line is so bad that the QB is running for his life the moment the ball gets in his hands your offense is gonna suck. Add onto that a mediocre QB, no deep threat WRs and no home run hitter back and you have a recipe for an offense that is going to suck no matter what plays you call.

I don't particularly care for Brian, but I will defend the guy for what happened last year. I was perplexed as to what he could have possibly called with the talent we had that would have yielded better results. Brian understands the whole concept of the defense pulling a string and opening a trap door, the guy knows the Xs and Os just fine, but if don't have the Jimmys and the Joes it doesn't matter how good of an X and O guy you are. I know it's hard to see, but this offense is light years better than last years. We finally have guys to punish a defense for loading the box or blitzing the wrong guy. It's going to be a great season.

I also think that the concepts are significantly better in the last 3-4 than they were previously. I only have issues with how much fundamentals were missing at O-Line and QB recently and it's not just talent. Also, I do think BF can overthink some of his play calling and get a little too cute sometimes, but that's prob every OC/DC in college.
