Head basketball coach

I am starting to get seriously worried about the state of our basketball program.

As much as people want to disagree with Matt Perrault.... I think he has a better idea of how our basketball program is perceived nationally than the local view of the posters on here.

We went from the names of successful major conference teams to assistants or mid majors. We are a Big Ten program with new facilities in the making and we still are unable to attract coaches with successful head coaching experience.

Take the black and gold glasses off and set down the kool-aid and then take a look at this situation?

Fact is we don't know who is or who isn't interested and we will not until Barta announces the hire. Money talks and coaches have huge egos and believe they can turn anything around.

As far as Matt goes, I don't mind listening to him but I definitely don't think he has any sources that would know anything about the Iowa basketball job.

There's someone out there who will love the challenge of getting this program back to respectablity and beyond. That person will also get paid an obscene amount of money to do so. Go Hawks, lets get this program going again!

Before you start believing what he says about Iowa Basketball, remember what he said about Iowa football...and put your glasses back on, you look ridiculous! :p

Jon can correct me if I'm wrong....

The two names that his sources have told him are interested in the heach coaching job are are BJ and Steve Forbes, neither who have head coaching experience.

I HOPE there are others out there that are interested but it just doesn't seem to be an attractive job. People were posting reasons why Pearl may come but that has seemed to die. Jay Wright was thrown out there... that is dead. Jamie Dixon, the Pitt coach name is being thrown out there but I bet that will be dismissed as well..

The truth of the matter is we are going to end up with a mid major coach or an assistant probably no matter how much money we can offer.

Sad isn't it?

What was Tom Izzo's background before he became "Tom Izzo"? Oh no, we'd better not hire Kirk Ferentz, he's only coached at Maine! That hire turned out more than OK. Relax, there are plenty of great coaches who would love to run a Big Ten program.

He absolutely has no sources and remember at one point in his mind we were the worst 9-0 football team ever and should not have been in any converation relating to the nations elite. He has turned into a shock jock, take it for what its worth.

Pearl was always a long shot. Most of the names that have been thrown out have been long shots. From what I have observed, a good portion of the Iowa fans real that we aren't the prettiest girl at the dance right about now.

The massive acceptance of the possibility of Forbes and Barbee this week I think is an example of that. People seem to be dealing with thelikely reality of the situation pretty well.

Wait a second, are you trying to tell me that Izzo was an assistant that took over at a program that had won a national title within 15 years of his getting the job? Poppycock.

The cart is definitely before the horse in this thread but.....first of all freakin out about getting a top flite "name" isn't what this is all about. Nobody really knew anything about Lute Olson before he came to Iowa. Same for Raveling and Dr.Tom. They were all relatively unknown quantities. My wish includes someone who can recruit OR a great X n O guy who is also smart enough to know he can't do it all and gets assistants who will help fill in where he is lacking. Also, someone who isn't sold out to a system like "the Butler Way". Just a winner who can bring back the fans and make everyone happy and proud again.

What about Keno?? I was never a fan of Keno being the head coach at Iowa but EVEN he seems like a long shot now.

I'm not so sure Forbes is a fall back guy. I think we'd be pretty lucky to have him. Great recruiter, apparently mothers love him. That's really what we need to upgrade our talent pool.

There used to be an old guy at CHA that would use that word instead of the more popular b_lls_t!!
