Head basketball coach

I thought money was not a problem. If Forbes is the best we can do we just as well do away with the basketball program and fire Barta. WE NEED TO AIM HIGHER!

It's not about name recognition. It's about finding the best coach that fits. You need to be forward-thinking here. History is replete with AD's that hired a relatively unknown that went on to become very successful. Some became legendary. It's not about what the individual is now, it's about he can achieve.

Forbes can recruit and he wants the Iowa job. He has been around great coaches for many years and knows the game of basketball as well as anyone. He will assemble a great staff. He is passionate about basketball and about the Iowa program. IMHO he would be an excellent choice.

I dont see a lot of people beating the band to say Iowa is a great program right now and has its pick.

This is true but at the same time I believe that all the pieces are in place for it becoming a great program. The new facilities will be as good as any in the country and will be a strong recruiting tool. Also, I believe that Barta now realizes that Iowa desperately needs a great recruiter and his next hire will be that. The athletic department is now fully committed to bringing quality to the basketball program and good times are on their way. If patience is a virtue then we Hawkeye basketball fans are so virtuous we are damn near saints and saints are always blessed and rewarded. The only question is: who is taking us to basketball heaven?

I am starting to get seriously worried about the state of our basketball program.

As much as people want to disagree with Matt Perrault.... I think he has a better idea of how our basketball program is perceived nationally than the local view of the posters on here.

We went from the names of successful major conference teams to assistants or mid majors. We are a Big Ten program with new facilities in the making and we still are unable to attract coaches with successful head coaching experience.

Take the black and gold glasses off and set down the kool-aid and then take a look at this situation?

Wondering who matt perrault is. I will tell you this my friend. I have no black and gold glasses on. In fact I view Iowa's program as one of the worst in the country. I am very glad we didn't play wartburg or Central this year.

We are ALL worried about the state of the Iowa Basketball program. How could you not be? With that in mind, Gary Barta needs to find THE guy that is going to roll up his sleeves and get it done. We need to get over ourselves and NOT worry about whether or not we get a name coach. Long term problems often require long term solutions. Iowa hoops wil be back. History says it's true.
