Hawks not close to Natty Champ caliber

There is no arguing with stupidity. You aren’t dealing in reality and have clearly been listening to the Iowa media your entire life. Open your eyes to the rest of the world someday. You’ll be amazed

Go back and compare NFL players in that game. Are you Deans old man?

They aren’t a national championship team and never will be, however I’ve been able to remove myself from that expectation and still enjoy the game as a whole. Being an Iowa fan is like being a fan of a good AAA baseball team. They have moments and maybe could even beat a major league team here and there, but they’ll never win the World Series.

You're just now figuring this out? Wow. Good thing about the playoffs and bowl games is the Iowa Fan Boys see other teams play and recognize that Iowa ... Is just Iowa.

What people don't realize is that the powers behind the program are realistic about it all and seek to run a profitable and reputable $100M sports enterprise.

See my post #12 in this thread. I am not just figuring this out but more like putting an exclamation point on the season after watching those 2 semi final games last nite.

There are some people on this board who think we should be always close to being in the CFP.

If KF ever really went to recruit CA, TX and the southeast he could maybe do it. There are alot of players there who probably have more talent and skill than many current Iowa players

Depressing thread. Depressing truth.
The top teams are just getting further and further ahead of everyone else.

The only hope is that eventually the South will produce such a surplus of talent, they will have to attend other schools because the top teams can only sign X amount of kids a year.

Maybe that surplus someday will be reasonably close to the talent that was recruited first, and that surplus will be interested in Iowa.

Does that make any sense?

And now they're being discussed as a team Iowa can never compete against. Will it happen for Iowa? Maybe, maybe not. But never? As in, never ever? I feel sorry for those of you who feel that way. That must be a brutal existence.

If that is Clemson or Bama's yearly records yes all these teams go through the ups and downs but remember during the time frame you have above USC, Texas and other teams were at the top and totally playing great.

One of the problems with the surplus of talent in the south and west coast is there has also been the rise of more universities like Central Fl, South Fl, Boise St and Fresno St, which are really good programs and they are gobbling up a lot of these players. There are just more and more non-P5 and really good FCS type schools in the south and west where these players know they can go, be on tv a lot, get playing time and be noticed by scouts.

True.
All more the reason we need some aggressive recruiting methods.
There is no reason surplus players shouldn't be interested in Iowa Football.

I'm gonna get skull-****** for saying this, but coaches matter. It's okay to hate Saban, but that doesn't change the fact that he has a talent for winning.
"Dream on jerk, Saban-quality coaches don't come to Iowa."
Really? We were one botched interview from bringing in Bobby Stoops. And maybe Stoops finds a way to keep the Adrian Arrington's and Pierchbachers at Iowa. And he finds a way to utilize the Fants and Epenesas to their full potential. And maybe Stoops isn't satisfied with bonuses for 7 win seasons cuz his inner expectation looks more like Dan Gables than Gary Bartas. None of this is to say KF is a bad coach. He's good. And good is good enough. "Great" is a risk that can backfire on you. Each individual decides for them-self if it is one worth taking.
Would Bobby Stoops win 6 national titles at Iowa like Saban is about to do at Alabama? No. But there's someone somewhere out there like him. And that guy could win us at least one title. And one would get us thru a Game-of-Thrones-Winter.

I just be happy to win west and play in big championship....NC game.....lol...unfortunately I live a realistic life.

What’s wrong with being a fan of a program that is 99.9% clean(we’ve had our moments), 99% of the time is in a bowl game and of that 99% 75% of the time is in a NYD bowl game? We will always pull off a big win or near big win within the conference and more often than not go undefeated out of conf although that’s not too impressive when you look at our OOC schedule. There are many programs that can’t say that. Pre Saban Alabama, Post Spurrier and post Urban Pre Mullen Florida, pre Dabo Clemson, Texas, Georgia...the list can go on and on. We have it good and need to appreciate it. The ups and downs most programs have we don’t.
I would love to see a national ABC 7 pm game like 1992 Miami at Kinnick but that’s not what Ferentz wants to do.

They didn't start playing football in the South until around 12 or 13 years ago? Up until then a lot of teams from outside the South won national titles. Now that they play football in the South, nobody else will ever win a title!

Yeah, with Stanzi you're probably right but not without. His injury in that Northwestern game will forever be ingrained in my memory.
Agree. The 2009 Hawkeyes would have given the 2009 Tide a run for their money... Talked at depth with some 'Bama fans right after Thanksgiving in 2009 down in Orlando. They thought Iowa was going to go undefeated and play in the BCS championship game w/ them until NW. Of course they thought Iowa was going to be a contender in 2010 too.

Spoken like a true Southerner. O, I wish I was in Dixie, away, away . . .

I've been to games down here, and I'll take Kinnick any day! Just a Midwesterner that's lived in the South for 32 years! LOL. SEC fans are the worst!
