Greg Garmon Transferring

True, but let's not be stupid. If you weren't an elite talent but wanted to play in the NFL, has there been a better coaching staff in the entire country in the past two decades for which to play? Name one.

Hammer Ferentz and staff all you want for game day strategy, recruiting, schemes, whatever...but you lose me pretty quick when the staff is called pathetic and the experience a waste of time for an 18 year old.

depends on the position. for O-line and DB, heck yes it's dumb to go to some place like Missouri instead of Iowa. for just about anything else...

You don't think the lone 20+ yard pass to CJF against Nebby was enough to woo the NFL scouts?

i think he'll get drafted by some team like the Raiders that will fall in love with his combine stats. but Iowa certainly didn't do him any favors. man, he could have been special in that PA pass KOK offense. can't believe i just said that.

Man crush statement, Weisman is Coker all over again...slow, slow, slow.

I wouldn't say either was slow...but I do think they are pretty much the same runner. Weisman had similar production as coker (in his 1st yr). I believe coker played hurt his second yr (what I had heard, could be wrong) which could account for him seeming to be a less effective runner. Neither has/had great top end speed (though my money is on coker was faster and weisman is quicker). But I think a power runner thrives more in our system than a speed guy like garmon.

There are a few (actually a lot) 23-30 year old men in the National Football League who would disagree with you about KF and his "pathetic staff."

Let me clarify, there is no way I would step foot in IC if I played a skill position, the playing calling and style is like watching paint dry.

I'm completely serious. My point is this isn't an isolated one-time case. There is a trend. It's not all on the coaches. There were injury and family issues that affected some of these departures, but at the end of the day 7 RB's have left the program early in the last 28 months. It's an issue.
According to BHGP, he also is the SIXTEENTH scholarship rb to leave before using up his eligibility. It goes back to Damian Sims in 2007. Carl Jackson retired in 2007.

Just for perspective does anyone know (or can anyone come up with) what the average attrition is for other NCAA programs?

I am guessing that Iowa is on the average if you compared strictly Iowa's RBs to other team's attrition for all positions.

Wegher had two things that Garmon didn't. First, was a healthy offensive line. Second was a down field passing game that opened up the running game. Garmon had neither of those things.

Up until PSU, the OL was certainly doing a good enough job run-blocking. Weisman's yards against UNI, CMU, Minnesota and MSU are proof of that.

That said, NEITHER player appeared to be that fast, though they were advertised as such.

You are right until the PSU game the OL was pretty good. Wegher though had a good o-line that was healthy all season long.

I think Garmon didn't appear fast at all but that doesn't mean he wasn't. He looked like he was hesitating out there. He didn't look prepared, maybe he didn't understand the offense. Wegher and McCall (limited carries) both saw action but right away you could tell they didn't hesitate at all, they knew what to do and they did it. Garmon I don't think he did.

I did see one very promising play with Garmon, the wheel route in OT against MSU. He didn't have quite enough sideline room, but it showed me he had some skills. And he may have been too hesitant, hence the appearance of "average" speed.

If Hill isn't injured and Bullock stayed injury-free, my guess is Garmon shows up next year with "RS FR" next to his name.

I just kind of wonder what else may have happened to cause this, or if it's simply "not a good fit" as has been said.
