Greg Davis Replacement

Assuming GD is gone, because Kirk will be going nowhere would Chuck Long be a terrible thought as offensive coordinator? He knows and understands Iowa tradition and history that some want by being an Iowa guy. His track record indicates he was better as a coordinator than a head coach, throwing the Kansas years out the window because that shouldn't count for anyone as terrible as their program is. He coached a former Heisman winner, so he obviously knows how to bring a QB along. Speculation here but I think he would be able to stand up to Kirk somewhat as well, not completely for sure as much of a tyrant as Kirk is, but maybe enough to make some difference. I really don't think Kirk would give him a chance, or believe that Chuck would even be interested, but just a thought I had.

Chuck has a great gig with the BTN don't think he would be interested. Change should be made at the end of the season and there should be plenty of applicants. If Kirk picks another yes man like Greg don't get your hopes up. Chances are that position has already been promised to family.

His master plan is to get his kid in there. Brian is doing a great job with our O-line and running game.

Actually, I would luv it if Brian took the job.

Lemme explain.

Let's say Brian gets the job and the offense still looks terrible (which it will because of Kirk's risk aversion philosophy). Then the fans will blame Brian. But we all know Kirk isn't going to fire Brian. So then Kirk has to choose between his venal nature and self-preservation.

And ya know what he's gonna go with? His venal nature. Which means the AD will finally have to act after two decades of a no-show offense.

I always say. Kirk the issue
Not gd.gd listens to CAP AND DEFLECTS HEAT.MUST
BE WRONG HUH? Any way let us win next week.HAWK PLAYERS TOUGH!

I don't think Ferentz is "the issue."

There is more than one way to have a balanced (but still favoring the rushing game) ball-control offense.

It's even possible to be innovative in play-making for a balanced offense (SHOCK!).

For once I would like to see defenders shrug their shoulders and point at each other because they are confused as to where the play is going rather than counting to four and pointing to where the play is going. If you're in college chances are a player can count to three or four.

I want Tom Polasek Offensive Coordinator North Dakota State

Still celebrating the victory over the wolverweenies and my sarcasm detector seems to be a little underperforming right now. Are you being serious?

The only thing Barta will do is what the donors tell him to do and that's keep KF in charge. He has zero power in this thing.

People forget that Gary Barta is nothing more than a puppet. He's a politician at the whim of his constituents (donors) who keep money flowing in. He's definitely not a "football" guy (or sports guy in genereal, IMO) like most diehard fans and as long as he can keep the people with the cash happy his job is cake. He doesn't have to worry about anything else because Ferentz and his staff are squeaky clean, have players under lock and key, and never make waves on or off the field. The fact that the pay in no way matches performance is irrelevant to him. Barta is guaranteed $4.6 million over the next five years, wouldn't you do just enough to stay under the radar and get those big checks? I have to admit I would.

Kirk goes nowhere until his contract is up and Greg Davis only leaves if he feels like it.

I think Brian Ferentz will be the next coordinator. He was made the run game coordinator. He coached with Belli-cheat. He understands scheme. He played college football. Of course he would respect his dad's program and be a company man...but dad's tend to be open to coaching sons' innovations. You might be pleasantly surprised. Do you think the changes in KF last year is due to anything other than Brian pushing for those things and him trusting Brian? I honestly don't know if he would be good at it. I think as a former player...coaching experience in a great NFL program and gaining game plan responsibilities are all a fast to track to finding out of he can. I think we get GD for one more year folks.

From '04-'11 Iowa averaged 139 YPG on the ground (that is as far back as the ESPN stats go). Since Brian came and took over the OL and the running game under GD in '12 the Iowa offense is averaging 162 YPG on the ground. Keep in mind that is 3 years with Mark Weisman being your featured RB. Plus that is with GD just not committing to running the ball.

Don't blame GD passing game offense (or lack thereof) on Brian.

But his last name is Ferentz...so automatically disqualified.

diabolical thinking.

Are there any old guys out there that were pushed out of coaching last year?

Cam Cameron. I keep saying it over and over again. He just seems like a guy KF would be comfortable with. At this point I don't think Cameron has a lot of options so he would probably jump at the opportunity to be the Iowa OC.
