Grad Transfers Available

What's funny is there are so many transfers every year, but only a handful of them do good enough to make a big difference. They stand out and make everyone want them. But they are the best of a big number. The best of anybody rarely end up here. We don't just need a transfer. We need a top 10 transfer.
Exactly, that was my point with the supply outweighing the demand. These grad transfers end up getting way better offers than they normally would because there isn’t much risk to a school offering a guy for one year.

For reference, one name we’ve heard brought up is Geno Crandall from North Dakota. Maybe he could help us out maybe he wouldn’t I really don’t know. Interestingly enough Dale Jones who never really played for us (injuries were part of that) transferred to ND and played with Crandall last year, he was their second leading scorer at nearly 12ppg.

What does our scholarship situation look like compared to the offers we have out for 2019/20?
2018-19 scholarship count at present.
Baer - SR
Cook - JR
Moss - JR
Bohannon - JR
Pemsl - JR
Dailey - JR
Kreiner - JR
Nunge - SO
Garza - SO
CMac - FR
Fredrick - FR
Weiskamp - FR
We have 1 available for 2018 and will have 1 available for 2019 after Baer graduates. We have offers out for guards (Terry, Carton, etc) and a commitment from PMac in 2019. At present, even after the transfers of Wagner/Ellingson, we don't have a scholarship available for anything but a grad transfer (1 year player). We have 6 available scholarships for 2020. Did I miss anything?

Yes. Connor has not been committed a scholarship to date as far as I know. There is something about if he gets a scholarship in one sport it counts against the total for the other sport. Therefore Fran may decide to pay his way which could ultimately benefit both the baseball and potentially the basketball team. We also have great flexibility with Pat the following year.

Allowing Connor flexibility to go between sports is enough justification for him, but having Patrick as a top 50 recruit that's a single sport athlete without a scholarship would be dumb. Someone from the compliance office would definitely come knocking.

There’s nothing that makes it against the rules. I’m pretty sure McDermott wasn’t on scholarship the year he won college player of the year.

Because all the graduate transfer guard are listing the schools who've been in contact with them and we haven't reached out to one of them yet.

Well you would hope with the news about Moss that Fran would pick up his cell to call but it might be too late now anyway.

According to Verbal Commits, there are 111 point guards that are transferring next year. Of that number, 35 are grad transfers and will be eligible to play immediately next year. And of that number, 10 at this time have declared what school they are committing to. And of that number, 4 are either dropping down divisions or going to JuCos. So there are 25 grad transfer point guards are not yet committed that could play next year. If you throw out the head cases and either non-rated or 2-star players you have about 5 that we would be interested in.

But yet we're still at 0.

Fran is all in on Connor being the PG. Don't be surprised if we don't bring in a PG in the '19 class either (not that Fran isn't trying). If Connor gets serious minutes next season at the 1, recruits will take notice.

It would be a mistake to not do everything in our power to land either Carton or Locure. It's not every day you have two top flight PGs in your own backyard. For better or for worse, it's looking like Carton's stock will rise to Marcus Paige levels.

He gone then.

As for having two PGs, it seemed to work OK with Gesell and Clemmons.
