Gesell

I haven't read this whole thread but it appears to have degraded into an argument. Anyway, I don't think we know what is going to happen with MG, going forward. I think we can all agree his jumpshot was missing for most of the season (from a consistency perspective) and he was shooting a lot of line drives. The past couple of games, he seems to have found his stroke and has more arch on it. I think, at Minny last season, he took the last shot of the game from the corner and missed. Point being, he has confidence when his shot is going. He really could be the x-factor the remainder of the season. Makes it impossible to hedge on our guards. Let's let it all play out and see what happens.

I agree with almost everthing you say here. But at a certain point in the game, when the other team is in a situation where they are forced to foul, I want White to have the ball.

Also, if you want to "stick with what we got because I don't like the what if game", there must be a lot of threads on here that upset you.

No what I mean by the what if game is when people say well we could have won one or two more if gesell or marble or anyone had just made a couple more fts...duh. We also could have made 1 or 2 more shots, or not fouled so much or not had a complete defensive lapse that allowed a lay up or set a better pick to get a cleaner shot or lots of things.

Hell gesell could shoot 80% from the line and never make an end of game ft. He could also shoot 50% but also make all of his late game fts. Of course we want him to shoot a better percentage but a percentage doesn't tell you what game they were made in or when.

Here is an if for you: what if...mike goes 15 for his next 15 fts? Would you want the ball in his hands at the end of the game? That would make him a 73.5% ft shooter! but it also means we still lost those one or two games we could have won earlier in the yr.

do you want jok in late in games to shoot the fts...he is shooting 80%? No because he did it against inferior guys. When you get your fts matters. Gesell has been the court leader on this team (IMO from how he controls the team). I want him to find the best opportunity to score...that means he has the ball and I believe he will elevate his ft percentage.

based on the percentage game for fts here is our lineup late in games:
pg - peter jok (can't d up and is a black hole with the ball in his young career, also not tested against true competition)
sg - Jarrod uthoff (still figuring out how to utilize his skills and become more aggressive...next yr he will be the 3rd option...he isn't right now)
sf - Aaron white (yes but he is complimentary as a sf, and needs to be at pf but gesell could find him open for dunks and to get fouled...can't do much on his own though)
pf - gabe olaseni
c - Adam woodbury
- gabe and woody on the court together I only like at the end of a game or half but I am not sold they can both keep up the ft pace next yr. hope I am wrong.

i want marble and gesell...they are guys who aren't afraid of the big moment and aren't afraid to have the win or the lose on their shoulders.

Just looked at the player stats for the Hawkeyes. Gesell's overall FG pct AND his 3 point FG pct are better than Marble's percentages. Gesell's 38.1% from three-range is third best on the team amongst players who have shot more than twenty threes.

Mike can shoot.
