Gavin Williams

You mean like how Saban went 34-24 at MSU?
Saban took over a mediocre MSU program that improved every year he was there. In his fourth year they finished 5th or 6th in the final AP poll if I remember correctly. If he had stayed there long term, the spartans would have become a perennial power.

6 wins, 6 wins, 7 wins, 6 wins, 9 wins. Took over a team that had won 6 and 5 games the 2 years prior and 5 and 7 in the 2 years after he left. They certainly might have become something, but he continued what Perles left off doing, and didn't leave with the cupboard exactly stocked.

Nick brought in Plaxico Burress and TJ Duckett. That '99 team finished 10-2 and beat Michigan (with Tom Brady and the A-Train), OSU and PSU in the same freaking year. He got boat raced by Drew Brees and Ron Dayne. Man, the Big Ten was so much better back then that it is today it isn't even funny.

Glad you agree, not bad for recruiting classes that rank at the bottom of the B10.
To be fair, recruiting is part of coaching at the college level. KF has shown the ability to develop talent but if he would get better recruiting classes on a consistent basis and develop the more ready players then most likely we would see more good 10 win seasons consistently instead of the 8 7 or 8 win seasons. Recruiting stars aren't everything and I know a bunch of people will now respond with the list of 2 or 3 star kids that turned into NFL players. And i also understand that much of recruiting ranking is based on what schools offer scholarships. For peoof of that just watch how each year iowa will offer an unranked or 2 star kid and shortly after that they get a 3 star ranking. That being said, generally the players ranked as 4 or 5 star kids are ranked that high because they appear to be very good and have a high upside. My point is that if more 4 or 5 star kids would pick Iowa, it would mean more wins.

No crap but 4 and 5 star talent are not coming to Iowa. You act like recruiting is such a piece of cake. We are small friggin Iowa with a campus in Iowa City, Iowa has one of the smallest population bases to recruit from and they share it with another P5 school.

Because idiot posters continue to complain about recruiting and have unrealistic expectations. Why do some of you keep doing this?

More 9/10 win seasons is not unrealistic. It's optimistic.
So, I ask again, why do you continue throwing out this straw man?
You know damn well we aren't expecting Nat. Championships. But you keep taking it there.
Why?

Ya think maybe he spit because there were academic and recruiting rules he had to follow...makes me
Sick how people slobber over Saban. Hell I could coach Alabama to at least 9 wins with the players they have.

So Kirk should be in the same breath as Saban!! 2-3 top 5-10 finishes. BCS bowl appearances. A few big Bowl wins. Undefeated season. And Kirk did it at Iowa. “With the slow white kids!!” Lol

More 9/10 win seasons isn't unrealistic, but we just won 9 games last year and you and others are acting like it was a terrible season. We've won 12, 8, 8, 9 games the past 4 seasons. It's hard to tell that you and others aren't expecting national championships when no matter what happens you take a negative stance.

37 wins over 4 years is only 1 win off of Kirk's best 4 year span of ('01-04 when he won 38 games). It also matches Fry's best 4 years span ('84-'87 when he won 37 games).

I really don't get how Da Haters are going crazy like things are total shit inside the Iowa program. When the fact is the last 4 run at Iowa is nearly at historic levels.

Despite being one of the smallest population bases to recruit from, iowa consistently is one of the top 25 schools in revenue. I'm not at all saying Iowa should be recruiting at the level of OSU, Michigan, PSU, or even MSU. I'm talking about being in the top half of the conference in recruiting. I'm not a fan of those that say "poor iowa, they can't get better players because they are iowa." I know recruiting isn't a piece of cake but why should we be happy with being out recruited by Nebraska, Maryland or Minnesota.

This is not at all trying to downplay the commitment of Gavin Williams. I think he seems to be a great recruiting win for the Hawks and I think the future is bright for our RBs. I'd just like to see a handful more recruiting wins each year and I don't think that's unreasonable to ask for.

Not hard to win all of the time when you have most of the top players in the state(see Nick Saban.) I would love to see all of these top tier coaching “GODs”,at any level, have success with a school with 2-3 star players. Hell what Kirk has done at Iowa is amazing..
Coach Wilson could win with 3 good players on either side of the ball. He's very talented. He eats, sleeps and dreams football. I've coached against him, spent time around him, he's the real deal. Sure, Phil Jackson and Red Auerbach werent good coaches either i suppose. Or Saban. I guess no one is good who develops takent and uses it well.
