There is virtually no difference between a kid with a 5.7 ranking and a 5.8 ranking. But if you sign 20 kids with a 5 7 ranking, you would probably be 25 spots below a school that signed 20 kids with a 5.8 ranking. You basically have the exact same talent with the exact same chance of success, but your class ranking is 25 spots lower.

Once you factor in things like slight tweaks in rankings based on the name of the school they commit to and not all schools have the same number of commits each year, it really shows that there is virtually no difference between the 20th ranked class and the 45th ranked class.

There are maybe 5 schools every year that have noticeably better talent than Iowa on most years. Kirk does plenty good at putting talent on the field. It's his game day coaching (which seems to have gotten better) that holds him back.

Getting all bent out of shape over "star rankings" is so ridiculous. Yes there are those obviously elite players out there like the one playing DE for Iowa. But to think ANYONE can accurately rank the rest, such as player A versus all the rest in the country, 99% of which they have never seen play, not to mention differing levels of competition is just ludicrous. I think I will trust the coaches which have PROVEN THE "EXPERTS" WRONG time and time again that they know a talented player when they see one... I like the players they bring in just fine. Agreed. Over the last few years we’ve been consistently landing kids with very nice offers from not only across the B1G but across the country. Remember when the knock was KF only got MAC level kids?

Even though we’ve landed many better looking prospects with better offer lists over the recent cycles, our “recruiting ranking” year to year hasn’t really changed much. To me that shows me not to put much thought into those rankings.

We’ve seen more players playing their way onto the field earlier over the last few years and to me that’s due to the uptick on recruiting. At a developmental program like Iowa that gives me reason for optimism because if we can bring in better looking players who get on the field earlier and we are great at the development aspect, I think we can have some really talented teams.

Iowa is really getting a number of players each year that are better than their ranking. If they were ranked differently I think it would be more reflective of our actual finishes in the B1G conference. Their is an improvement in the effort the staff is making to recruit and the results they are getting. Its just about continuing to take steps each year to get better and have consistent talent in the program. I think they are getting pretty good at it now. Alot of good signs coming from the program that we have improving talent.

Recruits do apparantly. Look outside TODAY around the state. That kid from Florida, Alabama, Texas, California....he doesnt want to go outside in this. Few would. Why would you? The southern and west coast schools can all offer top 25 teams and bowl games and national tv and the NFL. More than Iowa can most times. So, why this? Everyone says someone should be able to do it. No one says why. Kids arent idiots. Assuming all top 25 teams are top 25 for a reason...good staff....tradition....bowl games...NFL path....why Iowa? Snow? Kids from warm places love snow? Even if you dont play games in it, its here December through March/April.

There are certain other teams in our conference getting good players from the south and west. Teams that haven't done as much as we have recently, or built guys into NFL players like Iowa has. And that's all I'm gonna say about that.

LOL. Only 4 P5 teams have averaged 10 wins a year in the regular season over the last 5 years (Bama, Clemson, Ohio St. and Oklahoma). If you think Iowa should just "expect" to be one of the top 5 teams in all of college football, you are not being as "realistic" at you think.

Another way to look at things is that just maybe the talent level of the players Iowa brings in actually stacks up fairly well with most of the other BIG Teams. And the player ratings are really not very accurate more times than not since the Hawks frequently supposedly suck hind tit compared to the rest. Since Iowa puts more than its share of players in the NFL and EVERY BIG Team DEVELOPES their players, do we really think Iowa has a special formula the rest know nothing about? Ya you could maybe argue a tad, by not by a significant amount. There are no secrets as a rule. Gotta think those players were pretty dam talented to start with and the "experts" whiffed on em.

Well obviously i cant disagree. All kinds of factors go into that. Chance to play sooner at Minnesota, Indiana, Purdue, etc....Wisconsin DOES have a great tradition going/top 15......and some schools run an offense that recruits like better. I dont disagree. But if you look, those kids are mostly from those states or near. I dont see too many 5* California, Texas, Florida, Georgia, Lousiana recruits signing at non-Ohio State, Michigan or Penn State schools up here.
