Fran talks White - Uthoff

Believe it or not D-1 teams hold these things called "practices" before their games. They don't just show up at the games like your rec league team, they actually play together beforehand to try to improve their team and indvidual skills before and after their games.

Now, I'm not saying I believe Uthoff is the best player on the team, but if he were there's no reason people close to the basketball team wouldn't be able to tell this from one of these "practice" sessions. Now I know this probably sounds really crazy to you too, but there were people at Iowa St last year who felt Royce White was their best player before he had seen the floor in a single D-1 game, crazy right?

Yep. A practice session would convince most. Probably explains why the kid couldnt find the floor at Wisconsin so decided that maybe Iowa wasnt such a bad place afterall. Time will tell.

No way.

IF those two factors did indeed come to fruition, I think the lineup would look like this:

PG-Gesell
SG-Marble
SF-Uthoff/Jok
PF-White
C-Woodbury

But I also have doubts that Jok will regain that explosiveness before arriving on campus. I think he might get it back, but perhaps not as a freshman.

I totally agree with this but if they were both to good to not start it would leave White the odd man out. Again I don't see it happening but I also thought there was no way Basabe would be coming off the bench last year after his freshman year.

Personally, I think White is already too good not to start, and that won't change. Basically, you'd have 3 guys too good not to start, and only 2 spots for them. White and Uthoff would have an edge because of experience, in that case (even if Uthoff's experience has only come from practices).

If Uthoff really is the best player on the team, then I want to change my prediction. I don't know how you can spin "This red-shirt freshman who couldn't see the floor for another BoneG is our best player" as good news.

From talking to people I know that are close with the basketball program, they have said Uthoff is Iowa's best player. If Marble returns for 2013-2014 season, losing only May, gaining Uthoff and Jok Iowa is going to be scary good. Wish Uthoff could play this season.
But but but, Bo Ryan didn't want him anymore because Uthoff is terrible and Bo is god and never wrong - activebadger

If Uthoff is right there with White, that's a good thing. We know what we have already in White.

Why? Does him being the best player somehow make the other players worse? We already pretty much know how good White and Marble are, Uthoff being better wouldn't change their skill level.

I bet the one on one session was epic. We got some solid players in White and Uthoff, basketball keeps getting more fun to talk about.

I'm loving that lineup....

I definitely haven't heard anything about Uthoff being the best player on the court. But I have heard he has been impressing his teammates in practice. Much more athletic than most of them realized apparently.

From his presser today:

"White and Uthoff going at it yesterday was one of the best one on one match ups I have seen since I have been here."

I think Uthoff is the type of player who could be the best on the team, yet not necessarily lead the team in any one primary statistic (PPG, RBs, Assts)--He has an all around game based on my very limited view one football weekend. Very smooth.

Jok should redshirt, this would give him a better chance to get it back.

It doesn't make them worse, but it makes me think they are not that much better than they were last year. And it is not like Marble and White were all BoneG last year...they should have a serious developmental edge over Uthoff.

Do I think Uthoff is the best player Iowa on Iowa's roster, no. Do I think he is close to the top level players, yes. On any given day he could easily be the best on the court.

-Mr. Iowa
-Former Badger and let's face Bo knows talent.

Lots and lots to be excited about!

Just keep in mind we bash ISU fans for saying this exact thing about their transfers

Also remember, Bo raised holy hell when Uthoff said he was transferring. I don't think one raises all the commotion he did, if he didn't think Uthoff was a big loss for the program (ergo, a very good player), imho.
