Fran scheduled for teleconference tonight at 8:45 PM

Is it possible this press conference is to explain Barta's comments and the whole CBI situation? Fran scratch Barta's back, Barta lets Fran throw chairs?

Still don't think we're NIT-bound. Would LOVE to be wrong.

Honestly didn't think we had a chance, but why else would we have a presser? Contract extension?

someone said a long long time ago 17 would get us in if MN and ILL cooperated, anyone know who that was?

It's pretty clear, from this news, that Fran is moving on to Illinois. I wouldn't want to be Barta tomorrow.

They didn't have one last year at this time. I would guess Iowa would know now if it were in the NIT...or perhaps if it were going to be asked to host an NIT game
Never been this pumped for the NIT, but seriously.....it would be GREAT!

So wait, you're saying that Barta might know what he's doing, and that ignoring a rival tournament might help a team get into the one that actually matters? Shocking.

1. The NIT doesn't really matter, either.
2. It's one thing to say you're not going to the CBI. It's another to rule out the possibility altogether by saying even if you DON'T make the NIT, you won't go to the CBI. Which is what Barta did.

Got another possibility - Fran will be hosting his own post season tourney at his house. 5 on 5 half court. Northwestern will be invited as well.

Serious question -

If you guys are on NIT bubble, why do most of you think you will be a 4 seed?

Is there precedent to back that up?

Think if you get in, will most likely be a 7 or 8.

They will want us to host a game because it will likely draw a big crowd.

I think it's cause smaller schools can't afford to host games, I kind of wondered that too, but doesn't make alot of sense for Iowa to go to Iona and play in front of 750 people. Top 4 seed host all the first round games

The NIT is televised on the ESPN family of networks and plays its Final Four at Madison Square Garden. The CBI is televised on HDNET, has an entry fee, and ends with a three-game championship series on campus. There's really no equivalence between the two.

There's a reason why the Big Ten has good luck getting teams into the NIT, and why they're going to get three teams in this year. It's because they know how to work the politics of the situation. You ignore the rival tournament and the NIT will take care of you. You keep your conference's brand strong by avoiding garbage tournaments, and you're going to get more teams into the NIT and the big dance. Ask the PAC-10 how their CBI runs have raised the profile and brand of their conference. If you don't think Delaney and the ADs have gamed that out you're just being silly.

The 7 and 8 seeds will be auto bids, just like 14, 15, and 16 seeds in the NCAA tournament.
