Fran says Woodbury will most likely start

Well Grape, have you ever noticed that 90% of everything Fran says is hyperbole that cannot be believed? All you need to know about Gabe's improvement is that an incoming freshman was just named starter before training camp even starts.

LOL at Ghost trying and failing to dig himself out here. Yes a top 50 recruit, the biggest Iowa recruit in years, was named a starter over a sophomore project type player and that means the sophomore must not be improved? LOL.

Dig myself out of what exactly?

No, you're exactly right, you didn't dig yourself into a hole...you said "where are the PTL honks who said that Oleseni was the most improved player on the team?". Honks. Plural. So no, you're right, and McCaffery isn't to be trusted in the first place. My bad.

Uh, oh, Ghost. Melsahn Basabe had something to say on the subject, too: “He’s a pro. Pro ability,†Basabe said after Sunday’s Prime Time League exhibition. His grin never faded. “You think I’m laughing — I’m very serious. He’s got the most abilities on the team, or one of the most. He didn’t play a lot, so you guys haven’t seen him.†Link

Now, back to the original question. I don't know where these "honks" are. I gave you my guess on Fran. Still on the fence with Mel. Now, granted, he didn't say whether Oleseni was the most improved player on the team, but to go from bit player to "pro", well, I think that metric speaks for itself. My guess he's....at class. Or working out. This is fun. Let's play "I wonder where the whole team is" next. Quick! Before you dig yourself into a hole!

Woodbury could very well be the best Center at Iowa since Don Nelson and Greg Stokes who both also played power forward.....

We are going to be an excellent passing team and Adam will be one of our best.....

I really think we are going to run most teams off the floor, as we did at times last season, beating the opponent down court after they made a basket.....

I hope you are right on Adam, Jack. To me, it is too early to tell on whether he should even start. As it should be. As practice hasn't even started. But a promise is a promise, or whatever it was, so Woody gets the start. I am down with that.

You are right on the passing game. That is one of Fran's top two requirements. The other is being able to run. Which leads to your last point... I think that is true. If we cannot run them off the court, it will be fun to watch us try! This will be a fun year to be a Hawk fan.

I can see why Fran is thinking Woody will most likely start. He needs to have a true center at the 5 to allow everyone else to play their natural positions and Woody is his new blue chip center. It's either him or Olaseni who I'm sure will get plenty of minutes as well. We'll see who emerges between the two, but I expect to see both of them quite a bit. Kyle Meyer has potential but will most likely redshirt.

I think this is just it. To a certain extent not having a true C has held back other players in his system (forcing a non C to guard the opposing C). Fran can still go with a smaller lineup if the match ups allow that. Now though, when the other team has an inside presence, we have an actual C to defend inside.

Cute, and point taken. Perhaps my wording was a bit poor, and perhaps Olasani has technically improved a great deal. From squat to squat and a half. That's nice.

Perhaps I should have directed my question towards those who thought Olasani was going to be a major contributor to the team this year because of his play in the PTL. With no due respect to Basabe, the guy is not a pro, he's our third string center.

I think Olesani will either be in the NBA or making money overseas when his career at Iowa is done. I don't know if he will start this year or not, but my guess is he will be a major contributor. If Woodbury starts he won't be playing at the end of games unless he improves his free throw shooting, but both Woodbury and Olesani have tons of potential, and they probably go after each other every day in practice.

I bet you ONE BILLION vDollars that Olasani does not contribute this year.

I'm glad you have ONE BILLION Dollars to bet. You must be the 'most interesting man in the world' who is really knowledgeable to have that much money.
