Fran says Woodbury will most likely start

The NBA plays defence?

Hadn't seen it!

This is, without question, the oddest and most widespread misconception in sports. Defense in the NBA is too good. It's ruining the game. Almost every star player in the league is a defensive specialist. You can name the All-Stars who aren't on one hand: Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, Dirk Nowitzki. The game's brightest stars regularly dot the All-Defensive team: Kobe, Lebron, Chris Paul, Dwayne Wade, Dwight Howard.

The game has been reduced to isolation matchups outside the three point line because no one gets open anymore. You want to see horrible defense? Watch the NBA in the eighties. Just dudes running past dudes.

Evidently, you do not watch the NBA,then.

Lebron can shut down anyone on the floor,pg to center, and often does.
If you do not play defense in this NBA,you do not last long.

Agreed. All you can do is laugh at the clueless bastards that don't think they play defense in the NBA. They either don't watch the NBA and are basing their opinions on the NBA of the early 80's. Or they don't really understand basketball.

Funny how nobody complained about a lack of defense on the Ralph Miller team of 1970 that averaged 104 pts a game in the Big Ten.

I don't understand how anyone can come to the conclusion that defense is better in college than in the NBA. Do you people watch Iowa or other college teams try to play defense?

I completely agree. People never seem to realize the NBA is more spread out with the extended 3 pt line, NBA players are bigger, stronger, and faster, NBA games are 48 minutes with 11 less seconds in shot clock which equals way more possessions than in college which obviously equals way more points. It's really that simple. Saying the college game has better defense than the NBA game is like saying that high school basketball has better defense than college basketball.

Enough of that tired argument; My second point is, does this assure the starting 5 of the following?

PG - Gesell
SG - Marble
SF - White
PF - Basabe or McCabe
C - Woodbury

Basabe tweeted yesterday that he was hanging out with the new fat kid on campus, then linked it to Ingram's twitter feed.

The person putting the pro ideas in Marble juniors head is Marble senior. Marble is another year older, more mature, so maybe he can improve enough to be in the NBA. I think he could play for pay overseas for sure. He was good last year, but I never thought he was an NBA player.

That's about right. McCabe or Basabe will be outstanding as the 6 off the bench.

Love this lineup! I just hope Woody is getting a lot of weight work in.

Not sure if this has been posted before but yesterday at Garden Club in IC McCaffery said Woodbury would be a starter for them this year. Talked about how tough tough he is and how he is "his kind of player"

Some other tidbits:

-Gesell will start and is excellent
-The team has been working very hard and there is only one person not in shape (didnt say who)
-Talked about Marble and the NBA...said he has a shot but needs to improve on D
-Basabe is working twice as hard as last summer

....and Gabe is the second coming of Rodman.
....and Oglesby is the best shooter known to mankind.

So I guess this means the other 12 or so kids on the team are not "his kind of player"?

Cmon already. Fran loves to talk. Let's realize that and take 99.9% of what he says with a grain of salt.

Why such a douchey response? Just sharing what he said

I love that even with around 10 players on the team fully capable of starting with little dropoff in production, Fran seems to be keeping them all happy. As much as I defended Lickliter's coaching philosophy, I would have to say that under him three or four of these players would probably have transferred by now.

I don't mind Woodbury starting, but to basically announce it before practice even starts doesn't really make sense to me as far as motivating Woodbury or the other players. Everyone on the team wants to start, or at least have a chance to prove themselves worthy of starting.
