For those of you that don't remember re: Stoops

During the head coach search process after Fry announced he was retiring, several candidates were interviewed for the job.

Its fairly well known that Bob Stoops was one of those interviewed. What is less well known is that during the meeting between Bob Stoops and the 'search committee (Bob Bowlsby and a few others), Bob Stoops told our beloved AD that he wanted the job and he wanted to leave the meeting assured that he had the job. Our AD told him that he would make no such guarantee and wanted to complete the entire interview process before making his decision. Later in the week (may have been within a day or two), Bob Stoops announced he was taking the HC job at Oklahoma.

I bring this up because we had our shot at the Stoops family and ****** it down our leg. Don't think for a second that Bob, Mike or Mark are going to just forget that happened.

Well, since Bowlsby is at Stanford, I guess the Stoops brothers will never coach there.

And you were present in this meeting?

I guess the Stoops family are gonna shun their alma mater for the actions of one guy, who is no longer at the institution.

Believe it or not and I hate to admit this, but he is 100% accurate with his statement. I know someone on that committee and Stoops wanted the job offered to him on the spot, we went thru the process and hired KF and Stoops took the Oklahoma job.

Bob Stoops was the defensive coordinator at Florida before he was hired by Oklahoma. He was a hot commodity at the time and an up and coming coach. HIS alma mater shunned him for someone that had basically the same D1 coaching experience (2 years at Maine doesn't really count does it?).

Wouldn't you be ******?

if that's how it happened then I'm glad we did what we did and if anyone named stoopid holds a grudge I don't want one near the Iowa program.

So what......if someone said as much to us during an interview, we'd let him walk for sure. At least until we finished our search and that is what good management does. We got a good coach and so did OU. Although ironically they want him fired for his losses as well, funny how that works.

On a side note, it really is amazing the amount of anguish Iowa fans, or maybe all fans can seemingly muster over not hiring someone whose defenses never lived up to what ours already have. But that’s what being a fan*atic is I guess….

Iowa didn't shun him. They said they weren't finished with the interview process. Stoops used us for leverage and got hired but one of the top 5 programs in the country. I doubt he's still bitter or ever was.

Really.....it doesn't count, hmmmmm?!?! What do you do for a living? And if Bobby is ****** here sure doesn't show it much as he has said multiple times how much he likes KF and how he’d send his son to Iowa to play for him….

LOL @ Duff. Stoops took over an Oklahoma program that had gone 12-22 in the three years prior to him arriving. He has a national championship and several conference championships under his belt. That could have theoretically been Iowa's.

This is where you need to stop, why even play this game. No one can assume Stoops would have had the success at Iowa that he's had at Oklahoma. Just a dumb comment.

That is a huge leap of logic.

Then again, your logic isn't great.
