FIRE FERENTZ

If you were going to fire Ferentz, this ain't the year to do it. There are going to be quite a few coaching vacancies winter, and Iowa would be relatively low on the pecking order.

Do we really want to fire Ferentz in order to get the 8th or 9th best coach available?

Yep. The sad part is Wisconsin is pretty vanilla and they don't do anything sexy. They aren't that much more talented than us. But they just walked in and walked back out with OUR trophy with minimal effort and without their best defensive player. Ferentz's contract is a sunk cost and we're stuck with it, but if this basketball team isn't absolutely sick this year, Barta has to be fired. The rest of the athletic department is a pure tire fire.

Sure, the revenue situation looks healthy, but that is all on the loyalty of our fans and Jim Delaney's smoothness in extracting phat cash from cable companies and has NOTHING to do with Barta.

When was the last time you went to a wrestling match? Show up for the Penn State dual in December and then tell me about the tire fire in the wrestling program. There will be 15,500 in there making more noise than any BB game you will attend this year.

Yep that one wrestling meet per year should take care of things

Let's be real here, it's 99% the last item. It will be real interesting to go back through the preseason prediction thread and see how many people actually predicted 6 or more wins.

So what? The fact that no one expected much this year is the fault of Ferentz. Is he really doing some kind of great coaching job because Iowa is going to win 6 games instead of the 4 predicted by many? Pretty damn week conference right now and we still struggle. Think about it. This should be a time when Iowa flourishes.
Michigan is not very good. Northwestern is not very good. Nebraska is as bad as they probably will ever be. Minnesota is illustrating just how crappy this league is by actually winning some games. Purdue is as bad as they have ever been. Indiana stinks, Penn State stinks. You basically have 3 decent teams out of 12. Very depressing.

I don't care how you slice it, the wrestling program is not a tire fire.

You're right. They will fill up Carver on $15 tickets 3 times. It might break even, which is good for a non-revenue sport. But let's face it, Cael has become dominant at PSU and our rasslin' program is a shell of its former self. Sure, it's still highly rated because there are about 20 schools that put any emphasis on rasslin' anymore and we are one of them. I guess bince I bleed black and gold, I have an expectation of a Big Ten crown and national title every year like we had when I was a kid, but I guess that the mediocrity that has infiltrated the football program has bled into the rasslin' program, too.

TIRE FIRE.

The Hawkeye wrestling program is, has been, and always will be among the best in the country. (as long as they keep the Gable/Brands pipeline of coaches going.) That is something the football program will never be. By the way, what's that Ferentz "coaching tree" look like?

Im very proud of our wrestling program. I doudt they break even, but come a lot closer than most sports. Im not sure if BB is in the black yet.

OK, I'll take the obvious troll bait.

Before you fire Ferentz, please study the Iowa State situation.

They fired Dan McCarney after a 4-8 season. He was a very fine coach and recruiter. He won 9 games at Iowa State. He has now rebuilt North Texas into a bowl team and conference contender.

What did Pollard do? He hired a hot young name, Gene Chizik. That decision was an unmitigated disaster.

Then he hired Paul Rhoads. In his 5th year, Paul is 1-7 and headed to 1-11. Everyone on that board is asking for his head now.

Don't be in a hurry to fire anybody. It is a HUGE decision.
Bull ****. There are next to 0 posters on their site calling for his head. His assistants for sure, but not him. I haven't talked to one clown fan in person that wants him firied either. So if you're going to make a tired point, at least make it true.

TIRE FIRE.

ISU tanked under the leadership of Sanderson..He couldn't beat Iowa to save his life so he turned tail and ran to Penn. St., where he inherited a helluva group of kids. I had the pleasure of watching Iowa kick his *** in Iowa City last season. I believe Sanderson is 1-10 against Iowa (dual meets) in his coaching career. That's dominance. all right.
We'll see how it goes in the future. Describing Iowa's wrestling program as "mediocre" only illustrates your stupidity.

When we start using Iowa State as a benchmark for a football victory against them, and then head coaching situation, then all is not well in Iowa City.

So you open up a thread that says Fire KF, and then say you hate message boards? It's simple, if you think it's stupid, don't open it up. Do something else with your time.

the point is......it would be nice to have a place to come to talk Iowa football, maybe share some "insider" info on recruits, etc.., have some fun making fun of Iowa's rivals, that sort of thing...it just sad to see such idiotic posts ...such as "Fire Ferentz".....what a tired topic......bottom line is...he will coach as long as he wants to coach at Iowa...and guess what? when he's done...his son Brian will take over...........and you can take that to the bank........

Not the first time I've heard this prediction, but still have yet to see anyone point to real evidence that it is in the plan. The mere fact that KF brought Brian back to give him a coaching landing spot does not imply that Brian is our most likely next head coach.

No doubt. Kid has not even proven he can recruit and coach a two deep ol.

I don't see that happening.

It's starting to look like he can't coach an OL. That is one unit where we have enough talent to get the job done.

Better play from WR and (as pointed out a mor "true" RB along with MW) will show a more accurate picture of how good or oline can be. Hard to look great against 8-9 man fronts and blitzes when vertical threat us minimized. Translation, in my humble opinion, the oline is solid, not dominant, but better than given credit for on this board.

The runningbacks make them look worse than they are. The only one who consistently hits the correct hole is Weisman and he's sometimes too slow to exploit it.

Otherwise, they've been pretty good in pass protection.

Is this bank located in Nigeria?

Oh i think they are ok. Like you said not dominanting but you cant always dominate. It very well could be lack of plays that skews the view. On a side note i truly feel like if brandon comes back it is because he knows he will shine in next years o. That is kind of a tell tale i am waiting for.
