FIRE FERENTZ

The idiots are out in full force today...We have lost to the #1,#6, defense in the nation, the $4 team in the nation, and another undefeated team....Use your brains people. Im not happy about it either, but ive got some perspective at least!

Right on, RJ. I agree with you about the idiots. And, another word for "perspective" in your post is "intelligence".

I just don't understand, the general consensus was a mediocre season. I think many thought 7-5 or 8-4 at best. Why now all of the sudden are expecting something different? You have a quarterback who didn't take a snap until this year. You have very few explosive offensive players and no speed. It takes years to develop a style or program. Ferentz has always been a ball control type of coach. For him to even open his ideology to Davis' style was likely difficult and a definitive change in how one recruits. Two years isn't enough time to get his type of players in the system.

"general consensus was a mediocre season". That is the problem. We are now expecting mediocre seasons. Apathy is settling in. Wow. How far we have fallen.

I still don't understand why we can't recruit a top notch running back when we run the ball all the time.

So we will be better next year with an easy schedule. Be hard to tell then wont it? Or atleast until we get trucked in a bowl game because we had such an easy time getting there. If we cant compete with osu msu and Wisconsin then we may as well pack it up.

I think the KF era is over, they will finish 7-5 this year(bowl game outcome doesn't matter) and they will be in the 7-5/6-6 range next year and at that point Barta will have a tough choice to make. I just roll my eyes when people say the schedule lightens up next year. Given KF's philosophy and where the program is at right now, road games at Maryland and Pittsburgh seem difficult, I could easily see the homecoming game against Indiana where they run about 90 plays carving up new linebackers out in pass coverage. I want the happy ending(save the jokes) for KF I just don't think it is going to happen.

KF is coasting into retirement. Lets hope someone comes to their senses and fires Gary Barta, so we can get a new AD that will fire KF and staff. Can't wait.
If I could figure out how to get the "like" feature to work again I would "like" this post

Fire Ferentz, if for any other reason, because Iowa's best QB is 2nd string.

Iowa will never have a good offense.. 'cause of game manager's game plan and QB.
And that puts so much pressure on an Iowa defense that has already shown fundamental breakdowns over the years.

And Ferentz doesn't know what to do with high school recruits with skills. So he (Iowa) doesn't get a lot of them... or he places them on second string... or he asks them to go to other positions.

I really, truly, don't care if KF wins the right way (whatever that is, and whoever decides what the right way is). I just want iowa to win.

I expect the changes will come from higher up and trickle down. GB will "resign". The new AD will create new expectations just about the time when it gets affordable and Krik will resign gracefully.

Wisconsin really got a good deal with Alvarez. He became HC, worked with the administration to create transition plan, he stayed on as AD and mentored the new HC and could provide ongoing guidance. The onlyperson who provides guidance to Kirk is his wife. I'm sure she's a wonderful person but she's not a football coach.

I really struggle with the logic that people like Xerxes employ where they've got something against young MAC coaches. Let's review that stupid line of logic.Terry Heppner- Miami OH to Indiana where his teams demolished us before he came down with a brain tumorButch Jones- Huge success at CMU moved to Tennessee where that program is competitive on the field and in recruiting.Darrel Hazell- Turned Kent State around his work at Purdue TBDJerry Kill- NIU goes to Minnesota...yeah his team is only 7-2 this year while we are a dog crap 5-4You are so right why would we want a $1M yr. MAC coach...they may actually make us better
And don't forget what Frank Lauterbur - who went 11-0 and 12-0 at Toledo did at Iowa

Why won't we be better next year?

I don't see a solution at WR. We will have to replace both OTs most likely. 3 new LBs on an already suspect pass defense. CJF will be gone. I don't see any reason to believe we will be somehow better.
If someone can honestly point out how, I'd like to hear it.
I don't think we can assume this offense will be better just because the majority of the starters come back. That's never been the case in the KF tenure.

I think Duzey and Hamilton will suffice for CJF and our wide outs hopefully will have a it more experience KMM, Powell, Smith hopefully can step up...throw in Vamdeberg and Hillyer and I think we should hopefully develop. I'm more concerned with linebacker. Ruddock having another year will benefit us too. There is hope but there are a lot of question marks.

And for the record, NO, im not "happy" with 7-5 each season. I also don't expect to compete for the national championship year in and year out. I am "happy" with an average of 8 to 9 wins per year, a few above, a few below. I take ZERO consideration in what Kirk makes. That's not his fault, that's Bartas. You want to fire someone, fire HIM first. Kirk gets 1 more year in my eyes. If we don't go 6-6 at least this year, and go bowling, Then Ill be right with you all next season, saying he better get 7,8,9 wins or he needs to be let go.

Bam! My thoughts almost as if I wrote it myself. But probably worded better.

When Kirk leaves he won't enjoy the same accolades that were showered on Hayden Fry. BB and Hayden have more love for Iowa than Kirk. Kirk sees us as a paycheck . . . or suckers . . . or both.

You are correct with your first statement. The next two are rubbish and one of the things that apologists like me point to as hater BS.

I came over here expecting fans to be a little disappointed about the loss but didn't expect to see the negativity at this level. If at the start of the year you were told that you'd win 7 or 8 games I would think that most iowa fans would be pretty happy. Why is everyone so ****** off? After last year, were people expecting a 9-10 win season?

Its not the record exactly. Its the lack of offense(which is a huge issue) and some all too familiar play calling/scheme issues....AND of course some just want KF gone.

Were we watching the same game? As bad as Jake played in that game, Beathard's performance was horrendous. He's still got plenty of time to learn the playbook and to sharpen his reads but to make a comment that he's Iowa's best quarterback right now is laughably absurd.

Let's be real here, it's 99% the last item. It will be real interesting to go back through the preseason prediction thread and see how many people actually predicted 6 or more wins.

WR - Jay Scheel, Union High School. I have seen this kid play countless times. He leaves opponents jock straps laying on the field. He has speed and not just straight away speed, but lateral movement speed as well. Will be a frosh next season. May play right away given no WR currently on the roster scares anyone.

Oh man, I was just watching the replay of Indiana-Minnesota while cranking out some work. Indiana went for 2 when they were up 4 late, didn't convert. Minny came back and scored a TD. Indiana then marched down and had to push for the TD and then threw a lateral that was incomplete that Minnesota picked up. Wow. I know Ferentz has had his moments, but I don't recall us ever losing a game because he messed up looking at the "go for 2" chart late in the 4th quarter. I guess it can always get worse.

Okay he luvs Iowa. Or maybe all those tears were tears of joy knowing what the contract negotiations were gonna look like. But Kirk himself has said he doesn't place any special importance on beating Iowa State. And it shows in his production. BB and Hayden understand why being 6-7 against Iowa State should never happen.
