FIRE FERENTZ

When Kirk leaves he won't enjoy the same accolades that were showered on Hayden Fry. BB and Hayden have more love for Iowa than Kirk. Kirk sees us as a paycheck . . . or suckers . . . or both.

Exactly. Hayden was and will always be beloved.

Kirk and his agent, went into full renegotiation mode after the 2009 season and the Orange Bowl, despite some lean seasons previously. They fired up the NFL rumors again, which were probably a lie.

A famous sports talk radio host says, "Give me an A or give me an F" regarding a "take".
Over the years, we'll probably be judging Kirk's season as either as A or an F, and I don't see another A season.

WR - Jay Scheel, Union High School. I have seen this kid play countless times. He leaves opponents jock straps laying on the field. He has speed and not just straight away speed, but lateral movement speed as well. Will be a frosh next season. May play right away given no WR currently on the roster scares anyone.

You just described Damon Powell. That hasn't worked out well for us so far.

So, you're saying the Big 12 North is better than the SEC East?
That wouldn't go over well, here in Tennessee, where the SEC flag is the 21st century version of the Dixie Flag, in regards to Southern Pride.

Mark Richt has seemingly been on the hot seat the last 5 years. This is partially due to Urban Meyer's success at Florida.

Nice list. You'd think there were more coaches with tenure at one schoool.

This thread is funny. I'm not a KF apologist, but can him now and we are going down a road I don't think anyone here really wants to travel.

Lick says hello.

I didn't mean the Big 12 North was better, I didn't explain very well. I think being in the SEC has helped MO. get some monster recruiting classes, thus making them more competitive.

Were we watching the same game? As bad as Jake played in that game, Beathard's performance was horrendous. He's still got plenty of time to learn the playbook and to sharpen his reads but to make a comment that he's Iowa's best quarterback right now is laughably absurd.
IMO, the reason (I guess other than Jake's injury.. Jake didn't look all that bad on the sidelines from my TV's vantage point) Iowa's coaching staff put Beathard in instead of Jake was: wind, Beathard's arm strength, Jake's bad pass becoming a TO, and the Hawks being too behind to catch up with a game manager QB. Wisky knew Beathard had to pass on almost every play, being down 21-9. Beathard displayed the arm to sling the ball down the field against the wind while Jake couldn't. Too bad his receivers couldn't oblige and catch the ball (I know, Jake experienced the same problem with receivers). All in all, Beathard almost drove Iowa to a TD late in the game. Even though he was throwing against a a howling wind and even though Wisky's secondary knew Beathard was going to sling the ball downfield. Why didn't you see that?

Agreed. Beathard looked fine. Anyone ragging on Beathard for coming out there and playing his hardest is an idiot. By the time Beathard came out the game was already lost.

Makes sense. I knew what you originally typed wasn't what you meant.
I still think it was a mistake not adding Missouri to the Big 10. Delany must have had reasons why.
Then, keep that potential 16th spot for Notre Dame. Oh, well

Gary Pinkel's conference record at Missouri is 53-49. (Ferentz is 61-55).
Pinkel won the Big 12 north in 2007, 2008 and 2010, but lost to OU in the championship game all three times.
Difference is Missouri looks to be in the Top 25 consistency, and Iowa will probably not see the Top 25 in quite some time.

I saw a QB who basically threw the go route every single time and should have been intercepted twice. He didn't read the defense, he didn't throw to the correct receiver most of the time, and he hit his frickin o-lineman in the head with one of his passes.

Those are all correctable mistakes and should come as he gets older. But today and the rest of this season, Jake gives Iowa the best chance to win IMO.

Could you prove this notion, please? I mean I could see that being the case for sure, the SEC transition may have helped to land Green-Beckham, but on the other hand they have had Jeremy Maclin, Brad Smith, and some more NFL-caliber players for years. I don't know if James Franklin or Maty Mauk would be a talent upgrade from Chase Daniel or Blaine Gabbert.

Where they screwed up is giving Ferentz all that money after the 09 season. I admit it was a good season but hell they acted like he won the bcs nc. Were screwed for atleast 2 more yrs because their not going to pay that big of a buyout any time soon. I'm like everybody else it is really starting to get old losing the way we are. Plus it don't look really hot on the recruiting trail either.

and this is why I hate message boards...KF isn't going anywhere...
So you open up a thread that says Fire KF, and then say you hate message boards? It's simple, if you think it's stupid, don't open it up. Do something else with your time.

No I can't prove it. I fully admit I could be wrong.

I really don't even have a problem with the per year salary. It's just that in January 2010, you are extending KF through 2020, guaranteeing that he is going to get paid for at least the next 10 years, no matter what. Guess I'm overstating the obvious problem with this contract, though.

I still personally believe with that much job security that it's hard to have quite as much fire in your belly as you did when you had maybe a 5 year deal, and were making a third as much per year.

Go ahead and throw your temper tantram but its not going to happen. We dont have the money. Plus the only way we get a bunch of 4 and 5 stars guys is if we hire a Real Big name and they better win quick or that would dry up. Just because you want them doesnt make it realistic. KF may be on his way out but its not happining this year no matter how much people jump up and down. I have a idea. Lets let the rest of the year play out. If we go 7-5 I think this staff has done a pretty good job all things considered
Yep. I went there. Its time. Buy him out. Take the financial hit. I dont care. Suspend soccer for a season to do it. Whatever it takes. DO IT.
This is the most vanilla, unimaginative program in the nation. It is boring. It is unproductive.
I wont bring up money, I wont bring up past success. College football is :What have you done lately?" And it hasnt been much.
I dont care if takes 2 seasons for a new coach to get "his" guys in theprogram and we will lose.

I want someone who can recruit and develop. Sure KF can do that. But I want a coach that can recruit 4* and 5* guys and develop.

I dont want to here "You cant recruit at Iowa" Thats BS. You can too.

"Oh, who will we hire?" IS a question some of you will throw out. There a lot of imaginative coaches out there. And Iowa has shown they will pay their coach and support him and give him a weak press corp and above average facilities. I think a lot of coaches would come to Iowa.

Its stale and its time for change.

OK, I'll take the obvious troll bait.

Before you fire Ferentz, please study the Iowa State situation.

They fired Dan McCarney after a 4-8 season. He was a very fine coach and recruiter. He won 9 games at Iowa State. He has now rebuilt North Texas into a bowl team and conference contender.

What did Pollard do? He hired a hot young name, Gene Chizik. That decision was an unmitigated disaster.

Then he hired Paul Rhoads. In his 5th year, Paul is 1-7 and headed to 1-11. Everyone on that board is asking for his head now.

Don't be in a hurry to fire anybody. It is a HUGE decision.
