Feds now involved with the field hockey case

How can there be a double standard when Barta has shown that he treats all of his coaches differently? I don't know if there is an AD on the planet that could possibly honestly say that his head football coach is treated the same as his gymnastics coach. What they need to prove is that he fired Griesbaum SOLEY because she was a female.

As far as the wingnut stuff goes, we have reached an impasse. You seem to think that a favorite liberal wingnut conspiracy is true, and I don't believe ANY wingnuts (conservative or liberal).

Well the firing clearly wasn't performance-based since she was one of the best field hockey coaches in the nation. I understand that a football coach will likely be given more leeway than a coach of a non-revenue generating sport but if the best they can come up with as a reason for firing her is that there was a couple complaints from ex players, then they better expect the backlash they are getting. If the Barta's justification for letting her go wasn't shaky at best, the feds wouldn't be involved and she wouldn't be planning a lawsuit.

By the way, my thoughts aren't a conspiracy theory. They are proven facts. I'd be happy to inbox you with proof from nonpartisan sources if you'd like. You might actually learn something.

At this point, I don't care about the details. If this is the pathway to getting rid of this pathetic twit...NAIL HIM. Clear the deck.

Then fire Kfz.

With a new Pres and AD... hire a hungry, dynamic, young coach. Any AD with the most basic testicular function.. should be able to sell a guy on the facilities, stadium, financial support and potential at IOWA.

What you're all ignoring here is the fact that this complaint has nothing to do with the lesbian coach or why she was fired. This incredibly stupid complaint was filed by players who appear to be saying they are being discriminated against because they aren't being coached by the coach they want to be coached by.

As civil rights issues go this is pretty much the dumbest complaint I've ever heard of. I can't believe anyone at this agency is wasting a single nanosecond on this nonsense. Business must be slow...

I think a lot of us are wondering why the US gov't is spending resources on this. What is the wrongdoing the gov't is trying to convict?
It's basically the same thing as a "Disadvantaged Business Enterprise". University coaching and AD positions have historically been held by men. Titlelx is set up to see that there is some equality in the Universities that get Federal Funding. It's like most Govt programs. They usually aren't dreamed up out of nowhere. There is a need for the Feds to step in and ensure equality due to numerous abuses in the past.
If you or Gary Barta have a problem with it, maybe you could get the state of Iowa to refuse federal funding and turn Iowa into a private school. That would eliminate the problem right there.

Such a complete and total CROCK of CRAP.

Field Hockey coach FIRED...........hit the road ...........
Wow, field hockey should be the next Sport CUT/ABOLISHED at Iowa.

Waste

Field hockey has won more titles through the years than any program at Iowa except wrestling, I believe. A lot of young women gained a lot by being a part of that program. Just like the young men in men's sports. You seem to be clueless.

Yeah, right, go ahead and cut field hockey and then you have to cut a men's team or at least diminish the number of male scholarship players. It's Title 9 man, it's equality. Do you want to be like ISU and Wisky and not have men's baseball (maybe Wisky reinstated baseball).

No one on this board has come up with a credible reason why the feds are stepping in. Lots of innuendos..yet the fed are stepping in. I don't feel anymore satisfied with this kind of fed inquiry than I did when the feds decided to step in after Missouri ruled no wrongful death in the killing in Ferguson.

What facts do you have, fed, to start an inquiry into this matter? I dunno, we'll let you know if we find anything. in the meantime, we'll announce it and stir the political pot... Possibly their intention the whole time?

How many tax dollars are being spent in these matters? Even though wrongdoing may not be found, procedures ARE being changed (yet, another instance where the state is bypassing the will of the people).. Is the fed encouraging the change of procedures along with rabble rowsers? In these cases, I'd say the answer is a resounding yes.

You wanna see Clueless, pal?? Grab a mirror.

Their history and record have ZERO to do with Greasebaum's dismissal.

Why wasn't Jeff Dahm's dismissal 'investigated' by Feds?

And he didn't even berate/belittle his players.

CROCK and FANTASIZING in People's commune of Iowa City

I have no earthly idea. Barta is a first class idiot, so nothing would surprise me where he's concerned. We won't know until after the investigation.
Barta should be charged with a felony for the contract he gave KF, IMO. If this is what it takes to give him the perp walk, so be it.

According to the story in the Press-Citizen, the players say there was a different standard for women's coaches than for men's coaches. The administration says Griesbaum had a team atmosphere of "fear, intimidation and mistreatment." I would guess that the investigation will see if the UI admin has documentation for the "fear, intimidation, mistreatment" claims. In terms of treating men's a women's coaches differently, not sure where that will go.

In recent years, Iowa has got rid of male and female coaches who were not performing. Lickliter got the boot after 3 very bad years. Dahm was removed from baseball after a decade of less-than-stellar performances. Dingman, the volleyball coach, was shown the door after 6 terrible seasons.

Well said. Of course I'm pointing out the obvious but the main difference between Griesbaum and the coaches you mentioned was the fact that her teams were performing extremely well on the field.

so whats the worst case scenario that could come out of this? would they cut funding or just take steps to get better

The worst case would be the university could lose federal funding for the athletic department. But I believe the chances of that happening are almost zilch. Also, there's a chance that nothing will happen...and several scenarios in between.
