Feds now involved with the field hockey case

Totally agree about Barta. This is political correctness not run amok, but run by Nazi's. I mean this is scary type stuff, where if you don't get on board, you get charged in court.

hawkdrummer beat me to it - i now see - i was going to say the same as him - if you don't like something, you are labelled with a name. i.e. a racist, a homophobe, etc. the new america is exactly correct - and that is how they control people and dictate policy. it seems eerily familiar...

Since when CAN'T an AD fire someone for sneezing wrong if they want? They have a contract, you pay them their money, and move on to the next coach. Heck look at Auburn firing Cheezed!ck 2 years removed from a NT. Yet if you fire a woman, then it is about discrimination....of course....

Kinda like how no government office ever investigated Dick Cheney and his involvement in Halliburton in the run up to, and fallout from, the war in Iraq. Halliburton was struggling financially, and then post-invasion were suddenly and magically awarded enormous billion dollar no-bid oil contracts in Iraq. Crazy huh?

Guess what...its not liberal or conservative. Its politics. Not only does it not belong here, but its completely corrupt everywhere.
Yep. Classic case of False Left-Right Paradigm.

facism (let's cut the crap, "political correctness" is just sexy packaging to make it sound more palatable) is neither left nor right. It's an extreme that you can get to either way. PC..just happens to be the latest manifestation from the left side.

The political spectrum is too often described or thought of, as a straight line...with extremes on both ends, left and right It's more accurately described by a circle or clock with individual liberty on the 12:00 position and absolute government control on the 6:00 position. You can get to the bottom by going left or right. It's a matter of how you package it and how far you push people around the circle.

give an example of a conservative political correctness agenda.

Soft on crime, hates his/her country, East coast liberal. The right wing will use labels to advance an agenda, and paint with an unpopular brush.

Sure I think the libs do it more, and do it in an institutional manner....but the right isn't some alter boy in this fight.

Well said drummer.

Seriously? You don't think an AD needs to be justified in firing someone? You said yourself that they have a contract and I guarantee there is a wrongful termination clause in there. There are also laws against discriminatory firings, I.E. if a woman is fired for 'bullying' her athletes and someone like Ferentz or McCaffrey are allowed to consistently hammer on their athletes with no repercussions, then there's absolutely cause for a case. Getting all bent out of shape because people want to be treated equally in the workforce is childish to say the least.

You might want to know something about contracts before you get on your high horse. Griesbaum signed a contract that had a "not-for-cause termination" in it (pretty standard for coaches, both men and women). You might not like it, but AD's can, and certainly do many times fire the coaches under a not for cause situation. Pretty standard stuff really, and actually used on men more often than women.

PS, this is the same way Barta will get rid of KF. You gonna get on your high horse then as well?

“Tracey has had a successful career as our head field hockey coach. I am appreciative of her service. Following a comprehensive review of the field hockey program conducted this summer, I have made the decision it was time for a change in leadership.” Barta said the University will honor the terms of Griesbaum’s contract, which provides that she receive a one-time payment of $200,000 in the event of a not-for-cause termination.

You are correct about that no doubt about it. However my bringing up the liberals running the show in this case is fully relevant in that it is the uber liberal college culture of political correctness that this field hockey deal is even being talked about let alone an issue of some kind. Barta and any AD can hire and fire coaches left and right (pun intended) Football and basketball coaches get fired all the time just for not meeting expectations and that's a pretty subjective deal that's just all relative from school to school. It's not spelled out in any contract that if you go 6-6 your going to be fired weather your at Iowa or OSU... So if he can do it to Licklighter he can do it to her.... That's not a conservative deal at all that's liberals going up against each other pretty much within the college world....

Wow, so much beeching and moaning about this. It is an investigation, I dont think any charges have been brought on the UI or Barta. Investigations do not always lead to charges as you all know.

If you really want to ***** about something how about Wall Street never paying any tax on their transacations, transactions that take place over the internet that was developed with your tax dollars or your parents and grandparents dollars by DARPA/ARPA and mostly public universities, again tax dollars.

Most of us are getting screwed so bad by the system yet you ***** about an investigation involving a few people.

I think that even though this seems over reach as even an investigation, I am going to stick with my liberal political commitment to protect my social security, medicare, the environment (so I can hunt and fish), and hopefully a single payer system in health care so we can act like the rest of the world. Good stuff for my kids and grandkids, as well.

Oh, no. Now I have shot my mouth off, admitted to my greatest of all my numerous faults, and opened myself for mountains of criticism from my fellow posters. Next, I will vote to give KF one more year and finish the job!

I knew there was a reason I never talk about politics on message boards...oh,wait. Never mind.

Just because the university decided to pay her 'not-for-cause termination' stipulation doesn't mean the university gets off free of any repercussions. In fact, if she can prove that there is a double-standard being applied to her that wasn't applied to her male counterpart then she can file a wrongful termination suit. And to be honest, I think she has a pretty strong case.

PS, if a couple football players complained to Barta right after Iowa won the Orange Bowl and said that KF was mean to them and he straight up cancelled KF's contract and told him to hit the bricks then I would absolutely 'get on my high horse' about that. The fact of the matter is KF doesn't have the on the field success that Greisbaum did and he had more controversy (see Rhabdo) and he's still got a job.
