Fant 19th and Hock 93rd

Hard telling. If he truly feels like he's got a shot at having a successful NFL career then he should declare for the draft. Football is a sport where the body can only take so much, some people feel you should cash in while the body is able. But if he feels like he can come back and be a 1st round pick then it might be wise to come back, but that comes with a lot of risks.

If he isnt higher now one tear wont change that much. Double teamed or not, the lack of attention was noticeable yesterday. His fault or not, it was noticeable. Another one of those KFisms that when noticed is called KF hating.

Speaking of yesterday, it was my impression that he was busy blocking most of the day because when we wasn’t Stanley was getting sacked. Does this seem true to those of you watching on TV?

he was double and even triple teamed a lot of the time. The long score by Easley, I think he was double or triple teamed. The staff, rightfully so, took heat for not using their weapons to their full capabilities this season and seasons past. But it's not always so black and white. Sometimes it's because other teams are trying to take away your strengths. They keyed on him, Iowa made them pay with their WR's.

That's still higher than what Kittle went as far as TJH goes... It's not just about how high you go it's also getting your NFL clock started. The sooner you do the sooner you can get to the 2nd contract where the big $ is. Just ask CJF. The ink was hardly dry on his 2nd contract extention after his rookie deal when he had to retire. I'm not sure how much extra $ he made just surviving in the league long enough to get that but I'm glad he did and not get hurt say a year earlier...
It'd be tough to come back if your a 3rd round pick or higher really tough..

If he’s a third rounder now who can play himself into a 1st rounder next year than coming back might be wise. Hayden Hurst was the first TE drafted last year at 25 signed a contract worth over $11 million with close to $10 million guaranteed. George Kittle’s contract is worth less than $3 million with only about $300,000 guaranteed. In theory Kittle could have a career ending injury in the preseason next year and hold the TE receiving record but only have netted about $1 million in his playing career. Draft position is important.

Very true. That's part of the whole rolling the dice side of it as well. If he gets hurt at Iowa next yr and hurts his stock or even if it were to stay the same he's a year behind getting his NFL clock started... There's almost no right or wrong decision to be made until you know what the hindsight of it is. What makes it the debateable topic that it is

For some reason my gut tells me he comes back for one more year, but more signs seem to be pointing the opposite way.

I actually think T.J. will grade out as a top 2 round guy, and quite frankly would not be surprised if he was the first TE taken. At 6’5 he runs well and reportedly has over a 40 inch vertical. The film will show he’s a very good blocker and catches everything.

I like how your gut thinks and hope it's right. But I'll be more surprised than not if that's what he does. Because what isn't up for debate is if he can play at the next level. He'll be compared to Kittle almost incessantly and rightfully so if he goes. If he puts up good solid combine numbers his tape on the field does the bulk of his talking for him. He wouldn't need to blow folks away with what Fant can do in shorts. He does it with his blocking and hands and overall play.

I think the reason he could be taken later is because they want to see him play another year.
He's young.
Plus they probably want to see what he can do as the #1 te on the team.
Tough choice. He has room to improve and raise his stock. Or does he throw his hat in against established NFL TE's and other drafted TE's?

I said before, Fant should probably go. You don't get much better than first or early second round.
Everyone else has room to improve. Improve their skills and game, thus improving their stock.
Otherwise you are probably looking at another King or Jewell situation "that NFL team got a steal".

I actually think Fant is more comparable to Kittle than Hock is. Kittle had the third fastest 40 time of TEs for his draft class, his issues were hands and blocking in college and he just didn’t have the production like Fant did.

USA Today's mock has him as the last pick in the 1st round.

Good eye. Hard to keep up with these. Yes, this one is very recent. Second mock that has had Hock in first round. That one had him ahead of Fant. This one has Fant #27 to Patriots (seen that more than once) and Hock to Pack at #32.

Boy that would be ideal for those guys. And it probably has a 1% chance of happening. :)

Yeah there's a line in the sand somewhere. Like say TJH is drafted in the 5th round like Kittle. Plays well stays healthy gets to 2nd contract and gets big $ for a TE would that be worth it? That would seem to be the best/worst case scenario kinda right? Take the injury factor out or ending up on a crappy team that wouldn't use him much out of it. If the draft folks come out and say he'll be a 2rd to 5th round pick (seems most likely) that's quite a range....

I almost wish TJ would 'fall' to the 49ers in the 2nd or 3rd round. Him and Kittle just tearing up the league sounds amazing. I'd say Fant too but he just isn't 'falling' it don't sound like.

I think this year is a money year for TE's. A lot of teams have aging or retiring TE's that were still getting a lot of balls. I thing the success of Kittle will have teams looking to upgrade at TE. The combine should raise both of their stocks if both choose to go to the NFL. I think Hock would be better served to leave. unfortunately.
