Fant 19th and Hock 93rd

I actually think Fant is more comparable to Kittle than Hock is. Kittle had the third fastest 40 time of TEs for his draft class, his issues were hands and blocking in college and he just didn’t have the production like Fant did.
I agree with that too. What I meant by comparing TJ and Kittle is comparing his game to what Kittles is now. Not what it was coming out of Iowa.

I think this year is a money year for TE's. A lot of teams have aging or retiring TE's that were still getting a lot of balls. I thing the success of Kittle will have teams looking to upgrade at TE. The combine should raise both of their stocks if both choose to go to the NFL. I think Hock would be better served to leave. unfortunately.

Totally agree. You have Gronk on his last legs. You have a TE in Gates still in San Diego (granted they had a stud in Henry to replace him he's just been hurt all year) Let's name what studs there are at the TE position in the NFL.

Gronk
Ertz
Kelce
Kittle

Off the top of my head I'm already struggling to keep going. 4 out of 32 teams isn't a very high percentage of teams having game changers at that position and Gronk has to be one foot out the door he looked like a shell of himself this year. Now's as good of time as ever to be a stud TE to enter the league.

It depends. Seems like some offenses are placing less of a priority on the position, so that’s why you might not see as many. Rudolph is pretty good for Minnesota, Burton on Chicago is solid more of a receiving type. There is a crop of pretty good young TEs probably led by Kittle but also includes Njoku, Engram with NYG when healthy, OJ Howard on Tampa, Philly actually drafted a 2nd TE to pair with Ertz last year.

I do agree though, I think there are quite a few teams that are going to be in the market for a TE. Not sure what the WR class looks like this year but that could make a difference as well.

For some reason my gut tells me he comes back for one more year, but more signs seem to be pointing the opposite way.

I actually think T.J. will grade out as a top 2 round guy, and quite frankly would not be surprised if he was the first TE taken. At 6’5 he runs well and reportedly has over a 40 inch vertical. The film will show he’s a very good blocker and catches everything.
As sad as it is to say, his combine performance will ultimately make the difference between a late 1st and a late 3rd round draft status. And I think he'll test out pretty well. Not as well as Fant but well enough to support a high draft pick when it's included with his play on film. He's a stud.

I think not sure but the real guaranteed money is 1st and 2nd round draftees. So depending what the NFL tells him. 1 or 2 go 3 or later wait and try to move up. Just my opinion.

Yeah thanks for those names I was struggling to come up with them off the top of my head but I know of them. Howard was drafted in 1st round same yr as Kittle. He was doing pretty good before getting hurt and those guys all have done ok with plenty of 'potential'. What team your on and how your being used has as much to do with your production as how good you are do too.

Go Niners. That would be fun. But they need a pass rusher and some WR help.

Did you see that Kittle and Garoppolo are making overtures to Antonio Brown?

Yeah and OBJ has been in the rumor mill for awhile already too. The Brown thing due to his contract is the most unlikely thing to happen. They can't even afford to trade him. 20 mil plus in dead $ against their cap... Even if he holds out like Bell did they aren't cutting him.

If I were the GM of the Niners, or whichever team takes Fant, I'd give both nuts to take Hock as well.

You would absolutely wreck defenses with a two TE set made up of either of those three guys. Belichick and Co. were unstoppable with Gronk and Hernandez until the murder thing.

Seriously, I'd make it happen somehow.

That "murder thing". Oh, that thing. But, Gronk and Hernandez were unstoppable.

Especially with a guy like Fant where you can line him up anywhere. Hell you could use TJ in the slot and move him around too. The 49ers also have that FB Juscheck or however you spell it that's kinda a swiss army knife versatile player. If they added a Fant or TJ type of 2nd TE (Garret Celek is their current one) it'd for sure make them dangerous.

If he isnt higher now one tear wont change that much. Double teamed or not, the lack of attention was noticeable yesterday. His fault or not, it was noticeable. Another one of those KFisms that when noticed is called KF hating.

Well played

Speaking of yesterday, it was my impression that he was busy blocking most of the day because when we wasn’t Stanley was getting sacked. Does this seem true to those of you watching on TV?
He was quite busy helping our running backs off their backs after getting destroyed on one off tackle run after another.

I think he should go. Winning the Mackey is huge. Dez may have fallen after winning the Thorpe award because other teams refused to throw to his side of the field. That hurt his interception production. The other reason he fell was the combine numbers, which is why some GM’s are just stupid, but that is a whole different conversation.

Having said that, there are some real headwinds out there for this draft. The kid from Stanford just declared. He may be a first round talent, but only the 2nd best TE named Smith. There is a TE from Bama also named Smith who is getting a very high grade. Then there is Fant and finally the Mizzou TE, whose last name I won’t even try. Add in TJ and That is 5 guys at TE, all of whom are hoping for a first or 2nd round pick, when most drafts only pick 5 TE’s in the entire 7 rounds.

Hoping for the best for TJ. If he were the 93rd pick, he would theoretically be way at the end of round 3. That usually means a very good team is drafting when you go at the end of the round, so that wouldn’t be all bad.

I imagine TJ's measurables will play a significant role in his decision. Would be nice if HN had someone on the inside to supply us with these measurables. ;)

I strongly suspect his measureables are good enough to compare to guys like George Kittle.
Edit: Just saw that Kittle ran a 4.52 40 yard dash, so.....maybe not. That's flying for a 250 lb guy.

He was in blocking more than normal, but mainly was the reason why our wr's had single coverage against safeties most of the day. Heard him say on the 75 yarder to Easley both safeties came up on him, as well as the one biting on the fake. He had three guys on him, hence Easley being so open after the play action.
