Fake Fan List

The only true fan that I knew was Vintage. Whatever became of him? He doesn't post here anymore. Maybe he got tired of all the BS here. He had great insights and is sorely missed around here.

He hit his mileage limit of 25,000 posts and had to be taken off the road. Word is he was dumped rather unceremoniously in the scrap heap of HN lore and rests there now, rusting bolts, bulging pieces of shrapnel-ripped metal shell and remnants of starred out liberal curse words and all. ' Tis a pity. He was a talented chap.

Again, who? Was this vintage fella related to that Ralph Machio fella?

30458 glorious, fun-filled poasts, twkmajeeter. Get it right.

Ima feed the troll cuz it's Friday and I feels like it.

I've been a fan since I was born at the UIHC. Any of you Tavern Hokks able to say you were born at the UIHC?

Pops got his masters degree there, mom was a nurse at the UIHC before I came along. Grew up outside the U, had season ducats for both football and basketball. Got my teef fixed at the dental school. Honed my hoopz skillz at the field house. Went to school there myself. Must confess that I studied barology too much as opposed to the classes that actually counted towards graduations and instead got my degree from St. Edwards. So there's my background haterz.

<Climbs on pulpit.>

Now if being a fake fan means wanting a coaching staff that will put the players in a position to win, then I am a FF. If wanting coaches that recognize when changes need to be made, then I am a FF. If wanting coaches who aren't afraid of taking chances and trusting in the players, then I am a FF. If wanting a coaching staff that shows emotion, both good and bad, to motivate, encourage, and chew out players when needed, then I am a fake fan. If wanting better for the men who are dedicating 4-5 years of their life to playing a game that provides entertainment for me and a million other people, then I am a FF. Will I still be cheering for those men who put on the black and old gold next year? Hells yeah. Will I be happy when they win and dejected when they lose? Yup. Do I think the current coaching staff, or at least the HC, feel the same way. Nope. I just want something better for those men out there and wonder if our current HC can get back to being that guy or if this is the middle of the end for him. If all of that makes me a fake fan, then so be it.

<Steps down from pulpit.>

Kirk needs to take the next couple of weeks and do some serious soul searching about whether or not his heart is really in it anymore. He needs to take a look at himself and figure out if he is willing to do what it takes to return to glory or if it is time to move on to someplace where he will be re-energized. Hayden had to do it. He wasn't happy about it but he realized that the time had come and he needed to move on.

They probably already did the sex thing anyway. Duff would hit anything. Remember that fat anchorwoman that he wanted.

Here is why I am a true fan.

The following I have done to remain loyal and grateful to be a Hawk fan:

1. I once was late to may own wedding dress rehersal, because I could't miss the rest of the taped 2002 55-0 thumping in the dome, that I was at, watching hawk fans carry the goal post every where but out of the dome! That was so fun! Great Times!

2. I was at a friends wedding reception as one of the grooms men, who was watching the 2002 Iowa VS Purdue game. Let's say the bride yelled at me because I was holding everyone up for pictures. Tough, Hawk game comes first. Should have never scheduled a wedding on a Hawk game! Groom agreed with me!

3. I was so upset with hearing the outcome of the 24pt lead blown by the Hawks against the Clowns, that I ended my date with my wife, to later get away and actually watch the game and get mad even more. I however was first one at Papa's American Cafe to make sure that I got a seat to watch the game, the next Saturday. I forgot to pay my cable bill so I was unable to watch from my home.

4. I have always (and you can ask my wife) put the Hawks before anything, except church, and the kid's functions. Except for going to a Spring game instead of a youth rally, that I actually scheduled. whoops!

5. I get crap for wearing Hawkeye gear almost every day including after horrible losses. I even wear my lucky hawk shirt under my suits when I preach, do to the fact if I bombed my message, I can still feel good about being a Hawk fan.

6. I hate the Minn. Vikings! I went this year up to watch them with my wife for her managers party. The best dressed Viking gear got a prize. To support my wife I dressed up. ONLY IF I HAD A Chad Greenway jersey. Of course I had to wear a Hawk shirt underneath it and only cheered for all Hawks that played.

7. I told my friend that I would do any thing to step foot on the 50 yd line of Kinnick Stadium and get a chance to interview KF. I got my wish. He worked for KGLO here in Mason City. He gave me his media sideline pass and a tape recorder and put me to work. He and my dad sat in the stands. I lived my dreams. In fact I mad a mad dash to be the first one to Kirk. A kid I was. However, Peterson of the DM register got the first question in. I got nervous and couldn't open my mouth. Eventually I did.

There is so many great moments I have had being a fan that I would never trade for any thing! I hardly ever come on here and bad mouth the teams if they stunk it up. I showed frustration at times, but nothing to the point that questioned my love for the Hawks.
I claim to be an apoligist more than a complainer. That is probably the minister in me. I look for the positives on every thing. Life is to short to mad at the things you love to much.

In order: 1. God 2. My Family 3. Hawks 4. Friends 5. Work 6 What ever else I am suppose to love.

The Hawks had a horrible year. I get it! It happens! With Kirk I stand! With out I stand and proclaim to be a Hawk fan. No matter what!

Go Hawks!
