Excellent podcast Jon.....

Deace supported my stance from last week where I stated that we should be actually hoping for Iowa to reach rock bottom for the greater good of the program....I took some S for it, but still stand by it.

I understand your point of view but just be careful what you wish for, the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Never thought I'd say this but Dance hits it out of the park.

I disagreed with the negativity on the last Podcast. Sounded like someone got up on the wrong side of the bad.

Deace isn't an Iowa fan. He's a Michigan fan. But he's also very good at analyzing what he sees. Nobody can say with complete certainty that Iowa can win more then 6 or 7 games this year. And with this paltry schedule that's just so sad. It should show you where the program truly is. Any of those teams during the 3 years Iowa finished 8 in the polls would have been expected to run the table this year. And now its not only the national media but also local and beat writers not expecting much of this team...

This might be the first time I've read this about Deace on this site. But I guess everyone's an expert if they're criticizing KF.

What if Iowa does win a lot more games than he says? What will happen to him? My guess is nothing. These guys can't be as wrong as meteorologist, and face no repercussions for it. For whatever reason being negative gets the attention that being positive does not.

Iowa is a tough and gritty team with a strong defense. A team that does not make a lot of mistakes, a team that does not give up a lot of big plays. If there is any doubt Iowa should get the nod when making predictions. The strength and tradition of the Iowa program warrants that. In addition to that Iowa finds a way, through juco QBs, having to use s 5th string running back, what ever it takes. Iowa had shown that they can find ways to win. This year they will find a way!

Why should we hope to hit rock bottom? It's not the pros where you are rewarded with better draft picks if you lose a lot of games. In college it's the opposite.

Nobody seemed to complain or disagree with Deaces opinions on the previous coaches at Michigan and numerous other programs in rough shape.... He calls it like he sees it. He's not right all the time. But he's a neutral set of eyes that sees this program as it is. Not as fans such as Hawknic wish it was..

I just dont think I will ever get to the point where I root against Iowa. Won't happen. I understand his premise, but that's just not me

believe me - he is not a 'neutral set of eyes' re: iowa.

Deace = Good at analyzing what he sees? He thought Devon Gardner would be the best QB in the league prior to last year...and had the most pro potential. Hell, OSU has three guys with better pro potential than Gardner. Never mind Hackenburg, Sudfield, or Lunt. He said Alabama was way overrated and had no business in the top 5 prior to last year and he wouldn't put them in the top ten. I dont' like Nick Saban at all, but the guy has the top talent every year, and he's a discipline guy...guess what...that means he's going to have his guys ready to play every week. Alabama makes the final four.

I'm sorry, Deace is a bit of a hack.

For your information, this podcast is not critical of Kirk Ferentz. It isn't about Kirk Ferentz.

Although I have not listened to the most recent podcast, I have been listening to SD for many years and he absolutely hates the Hawks. You would too if Hawk fans treated you like they have treated Deace over the years. Jon would verify some of the things Hawk fans have said/tweeted/emailed etc to Steve are beyond vomitous. While it comes with the territory, he would deny this hatred due to his strong principles.

While I love the guy, take everything he says about the Hawks with a major grain of salt.

Deace didn't agree with you. He said he rooted against the LIONS, for reasons of getting better draft pick and getting the GM and such fired. I didn't hear him say he rooted against Michigan.

The fans gain NOTHING by Iowa hitting rock bottom. We don't get draft picks, it won't change the culture of Iowa, it is just the opposite it makes everything 100x tougher. Just look at how Lick buried the BB team and that is damn hard to dig out of. Hitting rock bottom is the LAST THING ANY TRUE FAN should root for.

This may be true but I can recall plenty of threads where people were complaining about something he said, including pointing out his obvious bias. He is a fan of 2 different teams who are rivals of Iowa.

Proof someone is a moron: stating, in an open forum, that Deace backs up your stance/opinion

I like what Deace has to say. Like you said, he's very good at analyzing what he sees. He doesn't have a bias toward Iowa like fans do and that way can provide a realistic viewpoint toward Iowa and what much of non-Iowa college football fans and media see in Iowa. I value the perspective of non-Iowa fans, keeps things realistic.

Why apologize for stating the obvious fact?
