ESPN.com In or Out? Bubble Watch

Just a total BS article! I'm still ticked about being left out of the tournament last year, while two teams, Minnesota and Illinois, got in even though they finished behind us in the league AND we beat both of them.

With all due respect, I think the NIT trip last year was a good, no, a great thing for the BB team. We got to play many more games than if we had gone to the NCAA, and IMO, it has made us hungrier.

The part that has always bothered me is teams just have to play highly regarded teams. Lose to a bunch of these teams and the Selection Committee rewards the schedule rather than the results. We upgraded this year from last year and hopefully will continue to improve the schedule. I guess I should be happy that our RPI is adequate, our record is good and we have some of those top 50 and 100 wins the committee likes.

Reward average teams who get pummeled by good teams, that is what the RPI is about and it has always been a joke. Just because you schedule teams that are good doesn't mean you are a good team. Like Minny/Illini last year.
I don't have the solution, but the RPI is not the answer.

Iowa is listed now as 'should be in' not 'work left to do'. Somewhere along the line this changed in the Hawks favor.....author goofed it up to begin with.

IU should not be listed IMO. And Minney is as bubble as you can get. One more bad loss for them, and they are history.

The article now puts Iowa in the should be in area instead of the work to do area. Considering only 15 teams are called locks, that's not so bad.

egg-zactly....I listed them at the beginning of the year as the team which will take the biggest fall in league play.

Looks like they're going to prove me correct.

Hello NIT.

Not exactly going out on a limb there considering they lost four 1000 career point scorers, 2 of whom were drafted in the Top 5 of the NBA Draft.

That makes much more sense, in looking at what the writer said about Iowa it did not match up with "work left to do".

Agreed. Writer states that the Hawks are right now a 4 or 5 seed but has them on the bubble/work to do.

Those two things alone didn't make sense.

I guess Iowa still has work to do "technically". If they lose every game left on the schedule to finish with 18 wins....yeah, we won't make the NCAA tournament. I don't see that happening, however.

Indianas weak bubble just popped. The Big Ten is crazy this season.

True. I don't remember there being this many road wins in recent years. Nebraska is protecting their home court better than the rest of the conference. That is weird.

Iowa could lose at both Indiana and Penn State and still be completely fine. The only way Iowa doesn't make it is if they lose out. Heck, they could win one game the rest of the way they are still a bubble team that probably makes it.

Actually, with as bad as the bubble has been in recent years, we may make it even if we lose out (I wouldn't count on it though. They aren't losing out either)
