ESPN.com In or Out? Bubble Watch

They gave him a 10 year deal last year. I'm sure it includes a nice buyout. He'll probably be there a few more years.

I might be misreading the terms, but here's my best shot.

He does have a buyout, but it drops off pretty rapidly after the first three years (and this is Year 2). Under the terms of the buyout, he's due $8 million over the first three years ($2.67 per year). Then he gets $1 million for Year 4 (2016), and just $500k for each of the last four years.

So if they fire him after next year, he's only due $3 million over five years. If they fire him after this year, he's due $5.67 million over 6 years. My bet is if they miss this year's tournament (which looks very likely) and finish any lower than fourth next year, he'll be gone.

Iowa could lose at both Indiana and Penn State and still be completely fine. The only way Iowa doesn't make it is if they lose out. Heck, they could win one game the rest of the way they are still a bubble team that probably makes it.

I don't think it would be in Iowa's best interest to lose the next two. They may drop down to 4th or 5th. Would have one bad loss on the docket (PSU). Don't go there.

Losing either of these next two games, even both, won't cost Iowa an NCAA bid, but I really don't want to see Iowa slip down to the 7-9 seed territory, and be playing a 1 or 2 seed in the second round. No sir. I'd like to see 4 or better, especially a 3 seed and be on the opposite side of the bracket from the 1. Even a 6 wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
