Eli Carter - do we even have a chance now?

lets just face the Real Truth about IOWA basketball.. IT WILL NEVER AGAIN REACH THE LEVELS IT WAS AT UNDER DOC. TOM!!! the glory days are OVER and have been for years.. if you fools cant realize that i feel sorry for all of you... Ryno is right to be concerened!!

Iowa as a University is viewed as a football and wrestling school... basketball is a secondary sport... so dont expect to get many of the best recruits even if they are in the state of iowa... aka Barnes, Paige, Hinrich, LaFrentz, bohannon..boy i could go on for days

You live in Illinois so you know the list of Illinois and Indiana natives that go elsewhere?

#2 rated recruit- Anthony Davis- Kentucky
McDonalds AA...Blackshear- Louisville
#3 rated Teague- Louisville
McDonalds AA...Mason Plumlee- Duke
Julian Wright-Kansas, Sherron Collins- Kansas, Derrick Rose- Memphis
Jon Scheyer-Duke...

I could go on for days....and much longer than you could. In fact, that list of Iowa players going elsewhere is about complete...whereas I just got started...Shannon Brown- MSU,Tyler Zeller- UNC,Ryan Boatnight- UCONN, DWade- Marquette....ect,ect...

You obviously aren't very old if you think Mr. Davis's era was home to the "glory days". Iowa was once considered a basketball school. There's a reason that guys like Scott Van Pelt are saying things like "I want Iowa to get better. College basketball is better when they're good." Because it's TRUE. You might see us as a football and wrestling school because it's what we've been best at in your lifetime. But we used to be a basketball and wrestling school.

I'm not old enough to remember the glory days, or even Mr. Davis's era. All I've got are Alford, Lick, and Fran. But I DO know enough about our history in basketball that it's stupid to say that basketball is and will always be a secondary sport.

Lute era to be sure. Football was king then as you went to the games just to watch the halftime show or to get drunk. The 35 to 3 drubbings we took really invigorated the soul.

Thank you Coach Fry! I hope Fran can do the same for the basketball program.

I should be upset that Butler is considered a better school to play basketball for than Iowa?

They've been to back to back championships for jc sake. They're the real deal, and probably a better school to go to then many teams in any power conference.

The fact is Iowa basketball is horrible and it is very hard to recruit when you suck. Eli is gone, we just have to hope we can get a guy that other schools overlooked. This is kind of like Kuojiwhatever keeping New Mexico in his top 5 just because they recruited him early.

Iowa basketball is or horrible, or was horrible. If you think the system Fran runs is horrible, then you are a clone troll. Of course almost all of your posts are pretty much the same negative chatter.

What are you talking about. Is all of this panic over a tweet about some schools contacting a prep school about Carter?

Not at all. First I'm not negative about everything, I'm realistic. I love frans system and think we are going to get better but records matter and thats what recruits see. Ohhhh the ol troll blast! You caught me!!!!

Just for the record, ESPN's scouting has Josh and Aaron White as better players than Carter.

They say this about Oglesby: Oglesby is a winner and he has the mentality and skill-set to succeed at the next level. Due to his ability to knock down shots and make quality decisions at both ends of the floor should earn him some early playing time. With added strength and a continued emphasis on developing a more consistent mid-range game, he should be a fine addition to most high-major programs. 3-start ranked as a 92 on a 100 point scale

For White: Aaron is a long and skilled combo forward. He is much more of a small forward than a power forward. Aaron is a good shooter with range to 20 feet. He is best at catching and shooting. He can create some off the dribble especially versus power forwards. He runs the floor solidly and is effective on the break where he can finish above the rim. Aaron is a solid basketball athlete. White will have to improve defensively but offensively he has a good enough skill package to compete in the Big Ten. He should fit in well with Coach McCaffery's motion offense. 3-star 89/100

And now for Carter: Although he can play both guard positions, Carter has showed good progression in terms of his development as a point guard making good decisions with the ball and organizing the team in the half-court set. Carter also attacks the rim, especially in the open floor, and shows good athleticism and body control finishing at the rim. 2-star 88/100

I guess Fran and Co. should just go ahead and pack it in. Maybe we should send them a copy of this post just so they know it's over.

Concern is one thing. I'm concerned about the state of the program, but my god. At least give McCaffery a couple of seasons before you pronounce the program dead.

I guess I also missed the memo about optimism and foolishness being the same thing.

well if im not mistaken. we thought Alford was the Savior.. then we thought it was Lick... and now everyone is praying it is Fran...

the people that still have hope.. good for you.. the rest of us who have seen the light and realize that iowa hasnt been good or decent since their loss to Northwestern State in the first round back in 2006.

but Ryno is right.. having an opinion on this site is absolutely worthless unless you are a follower of everyone else and just mold to the "give it time".. its CRAP

i live in illinois YES... but i could give to craps about illinois basketball.. infact if all of the players had stayed instate, the university of illinois would be on the same levels as Duke, UNC, Kentucky, etc..... I AM AN IOWA FAN... that is why i am concerned with the iowa talent leaving...

If you know how this is going to end, why even follow it?

So then go find another program to root for. You're obviously wasting your time with this one.

I mean Christ, CAAR is the one that always got on my nerves for being so negative, but he doesn't hold a candle to this. You've got to give Fran some time. He's just finished Year 1 and we've got idiots like you saying that he has no chance.

You are right about everyone having an opinion, but that does not mean it is worth a CRAP. Free country to post your opinion...fine...but that does not mean we cannot refute your ''opinions'' as pure crap.
Like saying that Iowa fans do not realize that Iowa bb has not been good since 2006....that is laughable. You have ''seen the light''....and other fans have not? Just dumb. We all can read the record.
But,your point is irrelevant anyway...it is like saying that because Iowa football had 19 straight non-winning seasons that meant that Iowa football would never win..could never win,and will never win....really brilliant stuff...duh. Somebody forgot to tell Hayden Fry about that...too bad you were not around to inform him of the impossibility of his task before he came up from North Texas...I am sure he would have stayed down there on your brilliant ''counsel''.

Here is the deal...a program can be bad, until it is good. Giving up before even trying is not going to happen. Maybe that is the way you roll, but not Fran or 99% of Iowa Hawkeye fans....get used to it.

Woah there sideshow. A lot of us never thought that Alford was the savior. Heck, he never even won the MVC!?! Lick showed promise, but the Butler/Wisconsin style if flat out boring basketball. Winning is good, but I want to enjoy what I am watching.

With Fran I ENJOY watching basketball again. And we had a losing record!?! Throw in winning - which WILL happen - and Carver will be rockin. I don't have hope. It is going to happen.

Give me one negative about Coach McCaffery? One.

Lol, well I think you all covered that quite well, and I couldn't have said it better.
