Agree it’s smart business but I’m not really worried if he didn’t get all that he wanted. He’s probably made Somewhere between 40 and 50 million in his 15 years at Iowa. I imagine his retirement looks pretty goodRight, he wants his money and IMO, he should get it. Why willingly walk away from millions. That's smart business. As far as Beth is concerned, I don't think there's much to debate. If she brings him back, Iowa basketball will go further in the red.
Yeah, and it's not like Fran was paid anywhere near the top of the conference. The Fran era at Iowa was mutually beneficial, it's just run its course. If Fran's time is ending with Iowa, it was a very successful combination both ways. Fran took the program out of the dumpster and made it respectable for an extended period of time, and he was paid reasonably well for the good work that he did. All good things must come to an end, and most of the time in the coaching world they do not end on a good note.
What's the cat and mouse game for him? He has a contract and will continue coaching until told otherwise.Still don’t know if the 4 million dollar buyout drops after April 1st. If he plays the cat and mouse game to get every last dollar…I’m not going to shit on him for doing it.
I just look at it as he's still coach till he isn't. He's under no obligation to plan ahead now to retire/walk away. His contract goes through 28. The ball is in Beths court. That's what he's just acknowledging by saying what he did. Surely the hell Fran isn't oblivious to the 'noise' and overall situation. What's the cat and mouse game for him? He has a contract and will continue coaching until told otherwise.
