Down goes Kentucky 57-59 to Robert Moris

THAT IS HIS JOB. Right state of mind is required for practice and working out and it has to be present come game time.

I will retract my being fired statement if you will admit he should have come right out and admitted the failures of his team as well as himself. Losers make excuses and he had many. Maybe if he would man up, he would not have such a hard time getting his players to.

I won't disagree with that. It was the "coach should be fired" comment that got me more than anything. You don't fire a coach like Calipari because he failed to get his team up for a singular NIT game, when it's not hard to see how his team might not really want to be there.

Starts with the coach. I do not care if I am coaching pee wee baseball or a math bee, winning always trumps losing. If it is my fault the team lost, then I need to hold myself responsible, the same way I ask the kids to take responsability.
That is how it works and all you fans can say whatev you want. I have coached, my brother has coached and I know many other coaches. So unless you coach, I guess you would not understand.
Like someone else said you frigging work hard and play hard or go home, because if you dont, you will be riding the pine anyway. I can and have played a less talented player because the more talented one, was not in the right mind set. It is all out war anytime you take that field/court, no matter who you are playing. Any other way is not going to cut it. If you want to play any other way, then go to loserville and enjoy.

You're not getting any disagreement from me on how a team SHOULD play at all times. Sometimes, getting a team to do that is easier said than done. That doesn't mean it's not Calipari's job to do it, but that doesn't mean it's hard to see why players might be disinterested in playing tournament games that are a step backwards for the program. To argue otherwise is to say there are no psychological factors involved in sports.

Those players have proved nothing, except they can lose first round of the NIT.
I know many do not agree with me. I am what I am.
I do not let my little kids beat me in board games and I have caught flak about that also. Screw that, if I do my job correctly they will beat me fair and square someday and they will be better than I am. There are no participation trophies in my house and I do not coach a team that way either.

To be fair the vast majority of those kids aren't defending national champions, they didn't help earn anything last year. They are just an extremely average team this year.

But damn Calipari is killing it in recruiting right now, he's got 6 of the top 18 recruits coming in, the current guys are either going to have to turn pro or get pushed out of the door.

The way they were talking on ESPN today, I think they have the open schollies...and looking to get Andrew Wiggins to go with the current 6. If that happens and guys do stay, hand them the trophy, it will be a similar looking team as last year with some returnees.

Just because UK is bringing in a ton of talent doesn't mean they are going to roll to a title. Their team last year was terrific because their two best players didn't need the ball and weren't concerned about getting their stats, and they were great defenders too. It's really hard to blend all the talent, there aren't always going to be unselfish guys like MKG and Anthony Davis in every group.

Well, I wouldn't bet against them. Goodwin learned how to play PG this year, he will be great next year. The key is Noel, if he stays, I am sorry they will be phenomenal and you will see another mass exodus.

What people forget about was that they had Terrance Jones and Doron Lamb, two guys that made a huge difference. The class they have coming in next year is far better than the Anthony Davis/Kidd-Gilchrist because of the sheer numbers and from what I understand is this group coming in is very unselfish, if you believe HS scouting reports.

On your first sentence, that is what a lot of people thought last year as well.

Actually, Calipari was pretty gracious today. He admitted Robert Morris deserved to win, that the team just didn't have the intensity. He didn't blame anybody, nor should he take all the blame.

Losing Noel pretty much killed any hope for a good "run" after the Florida game. Sure, they had some moments and a decent win or two after that game, but they were definitely short-handed to the point of being just a "decent" team, not good-to-very good.

if you guys want to pretend the NIT means anything to Kentucky you can - but for all the chest pounding tough guy coach speak its just reality.

They don't care and either to the coaches - pure and simple

The coaches will give the same song and dance you guys are so passionately (making me lol really) but in the end they couldn't give to craps.

Just glorifed practices for them at the most.

This is idiotic. You have no clue how driven you have to be to be a D1 coach. To get to that point you have to be willing to kick you grandma in the saggy bewb to win a card game. If you watched the post game I televiewers for 30 seconds you could tell that Calipari wanted to win. The player and some fans might have mailed it in bu not The coaches.

There are a lot of different levels of "want to" or "Care"

I saw calipari's interview as well - it looked like he felt guilty to losing to some nobody team.

His ego is way to big to accept losing to Robert Morris

BUT that's not the same kind of motivation a NCAA tourney game to him, the fans, the media or the players.

Wasn't surprised at all that they lost.
