Down goes Kentucky 57-59 to Robert Moris

Seth Greenberg already proclaimed that Kentucky will be a National Title contender next year. Teams have bad years, look at Indiana basketball, Texas Football, Michigan football, countless other examples. Kentucky's problem is that they recruit one and done players. If a class doesn't pan out, then you have results like this year where if it does pan out you get results like last couple years.

It's called pride and being a competitor. I coach and I always tell my players that if you're not here to learn and play hard then go home because you'll be wasting everyone's time for nothing. Doesn't matter if they are the most gifted athlete, go home if you're bored and don't want to be there.

I don't disagree. But I also know that it happens all the time. And I certainly wouldn't be putting Calipari on the chopping block because he failed to get his team's collective minds in the right place.

Kentucky just got the #3 overall player for the 2013 class. That makes #3, 5, 6, 7, 11, and 18 in the ESPN top 100 for Kentucky. They’re saying this class is a greater recruiting class than the fab 5.

Yeah I am wondering just how many of these players on the current team Calipari even wants back for next season. Some of these players that are on twitter saying they are coming back for a ring may end up on the bench.

It's a lot easier to get them to do those things than it is to get defending national champions excited about playing games that mean absolutely nothing in the NIT.

Really? I always found it really easy to explain how winning is better than losing. I find it harder to explain how work work work is what leads to winning.

Hey guys, lets work hard and go get that national championship!

Hey guys, lets work hard and win a few games that don't mean dick!

It's easier to coax out hard work when there's a carrot at the end of the stick.

THAT IS HIS JOB. Right state of mind is required for practice and working out and it has to be present come game time.

I will retract my being fired statement if you will admit he should have come right out and admitted the failures of his team as well as himself. Losers make excuses and he had many. Maybe if he would man up, he would not have such a hard time getting his players to.

I dont want to play that position.
I am the best player on the team, I dont need to work, the rest of the team does.
I am a highly recruited player, those 1 and 2 stars need to work harder.

That is how it is done.
Side note, I hope the football team can get some of that and make Kinnick a place people fear to play in. Way way to many home loses. Some team soon needs to step up and start a home winning streak and take pride in doing so.

I heard that Saban has said if they do not go to the NT game, they are just going to mail it in @ any other bowl game.
NOT.

did you hear calipari say that if they dno't make the NCAA tourney that they would mail it in in the NIT? nope, you didn't hear that so your argument there doesn't matter.

2 factors came into play here. first, kentucky's players probably really didn't care about being in the NIT after winning a national title. it just isn't a big deal to them. second, kentucky just isn't that good this year. they lost a lot from last year's team. put those 2 points together and you get what happened last night.

old dude, do you think saban would admit him and his team are more fired up to play in a national title game compared to say playing in liberty bowl? if you say no, he would not admit that then you're a liar

Why you talk in circles? So the team lost a ton from last year, got new players, yet those players were not excited because the players that moved on won a NT? Getting the most out of players is a coaches job. I do not care if it is a scrimmage or for a NT.
What I heard him say was a bunch of excuses. Maybe he should have said we are not that good this year or I failed to get my players up for this game. Like I said it is hard to get players to man up if the coach does not.

if you guys want to pretend the NIT means anything to Kentucky you can - but for all the chest pounding tough guy coach speak its just reality.

They don't care and either to the coaches - pure and simple

The coaches will give the same song and dance you guys are so passionately (making me lol really) but in the end they couldn't give to craps.

Just glorifed practices for them at the most.

Ok. Your right a coach wants a first round loss in the NIT on his record. That always impresses. Your right the players do not have any sort of pride and instead of waxing the NIT and proving how good they are, they would just as soon lose in the first round.

It all is clear now, thank you oh wise one for showing me my ways are skewed.

To be fair the vast majority of those kids aren't defending national champions, they didn't help earn anything last year. They are just an extremely average team this year.

But damn Calipari is killing it in recruiting right now, he's got 6 of the top 18 recruits coming in, the current guys are either going to have to turn pro or get pushed out of the door.

Pretty sure I never said "wants" to lose - if im playing tetris I want to win but if I fail its no big deal.

Kentucky doesn't win the NIT to prove how good they are..... they win the NCAA to prove that

waxing the NIT to prove how good they are... seriously?

Robert Morris had everything to play for. They're playing one of history's top 5 programs, they're playing at home, and it's most likely not just wasted tournament to them and most likely are psyched to be playing in any post season tournament. Kentucky had absolutely nothing to gain. Very little fan support, players and a coaching staff that were most likely "to big" to be playing in this tournament, and absolutely nothing to gain by winning the NIT, or advancing to the next round. Mentally Robert Morris was most likely salivating to have the opportunity to play the Wildcats, regardless of what tournament it was in, I'm pretty sure Kentucky was anything but psyched to be playing them under the circumstances. Regardless of whether or not UK threw in the towel and packed it up, Robert Morris had every reason to want to be on that court and everything to gain.

The other fact is that the Kentucky program that took the court was a defending champion in name only. They were nothing but a shell of the team that won the championship last year, and the driving force of that championship are making names for themselves in the NBA. Let's not kid ourselves by proclaiming that whats left over as a defending champion. The fact is that team was gutted head to toe and I wouldn't be suprised if we see another overhaul in the roster based on who they are bringing in next year.

Yet somehow you are not a tetris king are you? Funny how that goes hand in hand.
