I think this would be a good thread to get some non trolling talk about Jordan at PG.

He has really surpassed any and all expectations I had for him. He is so much better than I thought he would be. He still struggles with consistency pretty bad, and his defense is not real good. Overall though, I'm pretty thrilled that he can replace Mike's offensive number right out the shoot as a Fr.

I agree he's exceeded my expectations already.

I have no doubt in my mind he will be an excellent shooter, regardless of his current %s. I think some of his shots right now are a bit rushed and probably a step back from where he should shoot them, but that's expected for a freshman.

I'm actually fine with him as the starting PG in the right situation. My concern would be backcourts with JBo and Ellingson or JBo and Connor M (if he plays). We then run into the same lateral quickness issues we've had this year. If a scholarship opens up, I'd like to see Fran go after a combo guard at the JUCO or grad transfer level similar to a Moss type. Maybe Dailey could develop there as well. I also hope that Garza can provide some rim protection that we are missing this year, which I think could alleviate a lot of our problems.

I would love to see a JUCO/Grad transfer PG coming in for next year. Have them play the PG for 20 min, Jordan for 20 Min, and then Jordan can also slide to SG as well at times. Need to have a better defensive option at PG other than Jordan at times.

I'd be ecstatic if we could find that type of PG, I just tend to think that's less likely in the transfer / JUCO market. Either way someone who can guard quicker players and penetrate would be ideal.

I tried looking up potential grad transfers for next year to no avail. There are some pretty good grad transfers from last year that are making an impact this year. Anybody know of any or stud JUCO or potential Grad transfer guards?

I think JB still has a lot to learn and a pretty big upside. Teams will have to guard him carefully, because he can kill you with the 3, an advantage we have not had the past few years. He handles the ball very well. He seems to have good overall court sense. The team has been pretty strong offensively when JB is at the point, so proofs in the puddin'. Seems to be a good passer. Seems to have earned the trust of his team mates.

His foot speed is a problem for him. Some further training, strength, maturity, may help on this one. He still makes some frosh mistakes/turnovers. This area will improve with experience. His defense is, clearly, his biggest drawback at this point. Experience will help; speed must improve. He has shown some real flashes on penetration. Experience in this area is a big step, but his "burst" and pure speed can be a drawback.

There is no perfect point guard. The call for a dominating point is certainly legit, but there is nothing Fran or his staff can do that they have not already done in this area. They have been aggressive, they have chased the right guys; they just have to keep at it.

Did I mention that my concerns with JB may largely go away with experience...that is my bet.

I don't see Fran going the transfer route unless CW leaves. Fran clearly has plans for him and although he's been frustrating, there have been some positive signs lately. Dream scenario would be by his senior year he turns into Tai Webster.

Another thing is the roster makeup. I just don't get what Fran is doing. So we have right now for Bigs next year:

Sr: Uhl
Jr: Wagner, Baer
So: Cook, Pemsl, Kriener
Fr: Garza, Nunge

That is 8 player who can play the 4/5. WTF man, it is like Fran doesn't think there is another 3 spots on the floor to put players at??? At the same time he goes 4 years without bringing in a PG that sticks around??

PG: Bohannon and ??
Wings: Moss, Ellingson, Dailey, Williams and Conner

Sorry, but that is just a horrible overall collection of Guards, taken as a whole. Jordan has limitations, Moss isn't there yet, Ellingson and Williams have shown they aren't B1G starters. Dailey, who knows, but I doubt he is ready, and Conner isn't going to come in and be a savior.

We need to have another PG in the worst way, and no not another Williams experiment, or Conner experiment at PG. Fran has now done this 2 time (Marble and Williams), it ain't working Fran! Marble was serviceable for a short stint, but he thrived on the wing, that is where he should have been all along. Same with Williams, he should have always been a slasher, not a PG. Same is going to happen with Conner if he thinks a 6'5 kid with limited lateral quickness can be a PG when Marble and Williams couldn't, then he is nuts.

Overall the front court can be solid, but we have too many scholarship players (8) for only 2 positions on the floor 4/5 spots. The guard court next year is going to be scary bad the way it stands right now.

"..scary bad." That is so right. How can this team EVER move forward without any semblance of a guard court?

Bohannon had a pretty awesome night tonight. The 3 was dropping and his zone defense really was pretty good. A lot of guys stepped up tonight sans Jok, but we would not have dominated without Jbo.

He was really solid, didn't try to do too much. Really wish he woulda hit that last 3 to shoot 50% from 3.

Weird how his defense was better when everyone else's was. Funny how that works.

4-10, 40% from three, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, only 2 turnovers. I'd take that almost every time.

When others are hitting shots, it allows JBo to be at his best.

Ellingson and Kriener were the difference makers, but Jbo did his thing. And of course Baer was his regular "greatest walkon ever" self.

Defense works like that. You get your strength from the man next to you. If everyone is locked in, moving and communicating it makes it easier for a single player to defend. Once we have to rotate 3 or 4 times is when our half court D has broken down. OSU did a pretty bad job of moving the ball around and forcing us to rotate. Some of that was us with active hands and denying passing lanes, but some if was just poor play by Mata's squad.

I'd kind of like to see Ellingson get some minutes at the 1. He seems to be a decent facilitator that can make the open shot and is great to have on the court late game with his FT shooting.
If JoBo, Ellingson, Baer, Cook/Pemsl and Kriener are on the court I think that can really open up things. All of them minus Cook are decent to good 3pt shooters, which would really open up the post for Cook to work down low or pass to an open shooter.

I think Kriener could be a poor mans Kaminsky in a few years, THAT would really open up the court.

I loved the way the team played vs OSU. I had expressed concern over Iowa's guards going into next year, and then they go out and played a great game vs OSU.

Ok, 56 is going to be REALLY GROWLY tomorrow with is Clones losing. He will be trolling hard tomorrow, so if anyone needs a 56 free zone, come post here. We can talk about how awesome Jordan and the team was tonight vs Rutgers!
