Don't Forget Where Iowa Was 3 Seasons Ago

College basketball is very different from building a program up in college football. I don't think anyone should be required to turn around a down program overnight in basketball but it doesn't take nearly as long as football. Football you need at least 5 years because you have to get a class and then get the players developed physically and adapt them to your system. There are examples all over the country of new hoops coaches that came in and turned a program around in a year or two.

Players in basketball are more ready to contribute at an early age.

While this is true there are maybe 10 coaches that could have turned Iowa around from where they were faster then what Fran has. Maybe more could get us to where we are now in 3 years but not many could get us to where I think we are going to be in 4.

And I already know I'm sending this post the the wrong guy.

Totally false. Iowa surprised several times last year and Gatens had several games way above his normal ability. Iowa didn't lose to really bad teams this year when they were really bad....yet.

Last years Iowa team would hammer this years team period!

Oh, THANKS!

Not everyone agrees that having a felony conviction warrants a place on a public university basketball team, especially when it involves a gun. He was also denied parole 3x's. Having that opinion doesn't warrant an insult. HS is pretty good about insults which is goes hand in hand with not being able to present opinions in an intelligent manner.

Fran tried w/ the 42 year old felon and it didn't work out..he made a mistake, we all do and he GONE. Also, P.P. happened like a bajillion years ago so get over it. The season ain't over...go hawks!

No it is not last years team would beat this years team.

The conference is tougher this year than it was a year ago. Minnesota wasn't very good, Indiana and Michigan weren't anywhere near the level they're at now. And Iowa's defense was dreadful a year ago.

Gatens would have to be playing like he did in that short stretch for last year's team to win.

Gatens would have to be playing like he did in that short stretch for last year's team to even have a chance to win. As bad as last years defense was, this years team might put up a hundy.

Actually we all have forgotten where Iowa BB was 3 years ago. That's the only healthy way to live your life... forget about the pain and suffering and losses... enjoy the wins and the pleasure and the happiness.

The key during these times is to really enjoy how well this team can play and how close they have come. They will get better, play better and the BB gods will work the odds and over the next month and years to come the hawkeys will cash in many, many last second, last minute and overtime wins.

I disagree. Pain and loss are a vital part of life in general, and can lead to some of the most real and authentic experiences as well as making you closer to man and God. The solution to your current dissatisfaction is not to ignore past struggles, but rather embrace them as a valuable element in a process of events that we are embarking on as a collective, which will ameliorate our eventual triumph. No amount of false worship to heathen idols will result in a satisfaction as richly cultivated as one born by persevering through hardships while maintaining a vibrant faith in the outcome.

That short stretch is all anyone remembers anymore, I guess. Maybe they don't remember losses to Campbell, Clemson, or going 2-6 against Purdue, Nebraska, Northwestern and Penn St. They don't remember Fran's chair slam in the Breslin Center. They only remember the handful of games that could be fondly remembered.

You remind me of someone who used to post on here but I can't remember his name. I'm pretty sure it wasn't ostrich...
