Don't Expect Any Protests During National Anthem from Hawkeyes

You do realize that he is praying, right?

This mentality is why our Govt is set up to protect the minority from the majority. Given a long enough rope, you eventually hurt yourself with it. Thx for making my point.

See here you go casting aspersion on my "mentality" because I don't agree with the way they choose to deliver their message. Hijacking the National Anthem for your cause isn't a smart way to deliver your message as it alienates a large segment of the population.

This is the typical way in which political parties attack. If you don't agree with their tactics, then they say you also disagree with the message. The right uses this tactic as well. It is pathetic and it is why we stay divided as a country.

Remember one thing: this was never about "injustice" in America, it was about Kaepernick perceiving injustice when he started losing his hold on the starting QB job in S.F.

Yes, people can cite his girlfriend/fiancee/whatever being an activist. That's a smokescreen. This was about him trying to make a personal issue a social issue.

That said, the "issue" is certainly real. It's also one of but many we face in this country.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave

From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

If you are trying to make that about "slavery", give it up. It was the early 1800s. He was trying to write a poem. A lot of stupid rhyming has been done in the name of "poetry". That may have been one such case.

He has donated his time and plenty of money....He has done more than just kneel.

That's a fair point. And mine is that it seems he really picked the wrong topic to make a splash with. And now it's a distraction from the issues that, statistically speaking, have a much more negative impact on black lives.

To the casual observer do you think he is more known for his antics on the field and what that has lead to or the time and money he spent on other causes?

Before you make that point you should educate yourself about Key.

Actually its quite effective and will likely lead to its demise as the anthem. Dean you really struggle with opposing views.

My views are just fine. You argue with others 100x more often than I do on here these days. I presented my view that I agree with the message, I just disagree with how they are presenting it. You called out my mentality for it, as it typical with you.

Can you read your own posts?

You know what's funny.......Kaepernick has stated that if he was on a team now he would stand for the anthem. This whole thing has gotten convoluted and eff'd up on both sides.

It is funny - in a weird kind of way. What do you think caused him to flip?

Sure can. Too bad you read them. I knew as soon as I posted in this thread you would be all over it. Your obsession with me is creepy.

There you go again. I actually agree w you a fair amont. I do take some iissue but you just cant help insulting. I think we have differing views on what an insult is. I think that means that if you post it you are the correct view and others are stupid but you dont see it as an insult because you are right and to disagree is stupid. I think that sums it up.

I define insulting as denegrating the opposing person. You do it a lot. Thats when I punch back. Rarely will you see me throw the first punch with anyone including you but I have done it some mostly with you.

You do have some good posts.

A bar owner in Missouri placed this as his doormats. As an American, whether you like it or not, it's his right to do so.......

Ahhhhh, yes, I see it now so clearly. This is saying that people should tie their social justice agenda to kneeling during the Anthem. I'm thinking maybe those who are protecting unborn children (noble cause in their minds) should now also kneel during the Anthem. I'm thinking that the NFL against domestic violence should be kneeling during the Anthem in protest of all the NFL player who batter and abuse the women in their lives. I think every worthwhile cause in the country should be celebrated by kneeling during the National Anthem.

It is soooooooooo freaking stupid to alienate such a big segment of the population by tying your cause to what some will find as disrespecting the Anthem/country.

The true social protestor, like Ghandi, doesnt care who they alienate. And dont all of a you now say I am equating Kapernick to Ghandi.

And people are missing the point. We have a right to free speech and expression, except certain threats, without the govt (police, legal, other elements like IRS) jailing or harassing us.

Yes you can lose your job just like some of the white supremacists in Virginia did even though they were not on the clock.

But we have the right to free speech without having to fear going to the gulag.

Who is going to the gulag over this? Who is being threatened jail for kneeling?

I don't know where else to go with this. I have said several times I total support what they are protesting. I just don't think you need to do it during the Anthem in order to advance that cause. Even that seems to make me a target. If you are not all in on the message and the delivery of the message, then you are also a target. It reminds me of what the Republicans did during Iraq. If you didn't agree with the mission, then you can't support the troops. It was BS then, and it is BS now.
