Don't count out Moss

He had some really good looking pull up 10 footers. I think he will be at 10 or a little over. I think Cook will be just behind. I'm thinking there will be 5 or so guys in the 8-12 range.

I can see that. Outside of Jok I'd expect a lot of guys to have similar scoring numbers.

I think the fair take on Williams is that we saw enough of him to say that he is not going to be a superstar but is going to be a decent contributor.

And maybe Bohannon takes over the reigns at point by the second half of the season and Fran slides CW over to the 2, who knows.

I'm also thinking Cook is more of a guy who'll average 5 ppg. his first year.

Williams is just not a scorer and he has never has been, his points per minute were lower than Ellingson, Gesell, Woodbury, Clemmons, Uhl, Baer, Jones and Fleming. The only scholarship player he had a better points per minute then was Wagner and he barely edged him out on that.

I don't care about his points per minute stat... There was clearly a trend if you go look at his game log. Early in the year he had 9 games in which he played that he didn't score. He finished the season scoring in 4 of the last 5 games. He was clearly more confident the more he played and the more aggressive he became.

I'll bet my house that Williams scores more than Ellingson next year.

Well yeah but saying he's going to be a double digit scorer when he's never been considered a scorer is not very realistic. Gesell was considered more of a scorer when he came to Iowa and he could never do it

I don't remember exactly but I'm pretty sure Williams hardly scored in his first couple PTL games then he had some big games. Someone was talking about how he needed to have confidence to know he belongs on the court and he was getting more and more confident every day. Like I said, I don't remember exactly but it was something along those lines. Then as the season went on, he again showed more and more confidence. The way I see it, everything is pointing to him being a late bloomer and being really good by the time he's done here.

He averaged 9.7 ppg in the PTL. He's never been a scorer, I don't think him playing out of position is going to help him turn into one either

18 in high school isn't a non scorer. And like I said, he had a couple really bad PTL games early. After that his average was pretty good.

You keep bringing up the out of position arguement. Williams is a slasher. Why would a slasher who has the ball in his hands more because he's playing point guard score less than a slasher who has the ball less? If he was a shooter you would have a point because he would be better off running off screens to get open for jump shots.

Must just be me and you PC... When I saw him play, he looked the most comfortable with the ball in his hands. I think the PG spot better suites his game.

You say 12 ppg for Cook means he isn't a scorer and he's the one playing big time basketball, Williams scoring 18 ppg at a smaller school in Illinois is far less impressive. If you're a scorer you don't average 9 ppg in the PTL, you just don't. The fact he only scored 2 points in his first game when Fleming scored 25 shows you the difference between the two's scoring ability. Fleming couldn't do anything else but he was a scorer. Williams is not a scorer and never has been and everything you look up backs that up. I'm just hoping he can facilitate the offense, protect the ball and defend.

He scored a total of 6 points his first two games, if you take away those two games his average was 12ppg the rest of the season.

Scoring 18 in high school doesn't suggest anything. It doesn't mean he will be a scorer in college but it certainly doesn't mean he won't be either. As far as whose points per game was more impressive, I would say it's pretty close. If you asked me a year ago what I thought Williams would average, I would have said a lower number than I would for Cook this year. A lot of variables go into my prediction. How smooth Williams looked at the end of last year, me thinking he's a late bloomer that is getting better at a very fast rate, and how much we need him to play this year.

You said you didn't think scoring would be a strong part of Cook's game because his stats

Correct. And if I see flashes of good post moves next year, I will be predicting more scoring from Cook the following year.

Well I hope for Cook's sake he can score 27 or more points this year so he can earn your respect for his scoring abilities.

If he had 2 seniors playing his position in front of him but looked better and better as the year went on I wouldbe optomistic. But he has almost no experience to beat out so he will score way more than 27 points. That's the one thing you just can't seem to grasp. Cook is coming into an entirely different situation than Williams came into last year.

Except Williams was playing behind Ellingson not Gesell or Clemmons. MG and AC were the PG's, Williams is a wing and that's what he played that last season

He's a point guard whether you like it or not. He played wing because by the end of the year, Fran had to get him on the court.
