This isn't a knock on Williams at all, just the facts. He had exactly one P5 offer, and averaged 1.4 PPG last year. Cook could have had his pick between nearly any school he wanted. So I'm not sure how it would be hard to predict Cook scoring more than Williams.

Again, I don't care about Williams recruiting ranking anymore because he has already played a year. It's almost like some think Williams was the huge recruit and Cook was the one nobody offered.

It's much more complex than just comparing Williams to Cook. We have Baer, Uhl, Wagner and Jones who can all play some minutes at the 4, some the 5.
Williams just doesn't' have any competition at the PG. I think Williams will play more minutes than Cook which will obviously play a roll in scoring opportunities. I like Bohannon as much as anyone but he's not a come in take over the program or play a lot of minutes right away. I heard an Iowa Beat guy on the radio the other day... wanna say Morehouse say playing time will be 60/40 between Williams and Bohannon and I can't imagine Bohannon playing that much. I'm thinking closer to 75/25 or 80/20.
Plus I think it's even more difficult for big guys to adjust in making the step from high school to college.
A season in which he played 101 total minutes (much of which was against weak competition in the preseason or blowout games) and averaged 1.4 PPG.
We really haven't seen Williams play, and the fact that Ellingson was ahead of him for the majority of the season means he wasn't exactly killing it in practice either...
The thing is he really didn't even play at all and only scored 27 points on the entire season but you expect him to score more than a player that could have gone anywhere he wanted and Fran is telling people he's a starter before he even steps on campus.
You're wrong about most of his minutes in pre season and blowouts. Most of his minutes came in the last 10 games or so. His two best games were at MSU and home against Indiana. Just watching him play and seeing how smooth and effortless he plays makes me think his shorter opponents are going to have trouble. And like someone just said, he will play more minutes than Cook.
Fran said Woody was a starter before he came on campus. It didn't mean Woody was a scorer.
Don't remind me. You listed one of CW's best two games as one of them being at Michigan State where he didn't even score, had 1 assist, 1 rebound and 1 TO. I'm not sure Williams is the scorer you think he is
I know he wasn't the scorer last year. Not many freshman are going to come in and jack up shots when they play on a team with 4 senior starters. Fleming did and lost Fran's trust. What I saw from Williams makes me think he will be a scorer. Did you watch games or do you just read the box score?

He's not a jump shooter, and frankly a long ways away from being labeled a 'scorer'. I expect 7-9 PPG. Just curious, what do you expect him to average next year?
I watched the games and watched the entire season, we had a pretty average PG ahead of him all season and a below average Big Ten player ahead of him a majority of the season. He scored 27 points on the entire season and people think he's going to average double digit points and be better than Tyler Cook. I don't understand it, he's not even playing his natural position
Playing out of position didn't hurt Marble's scoring.
