Don't count out Moss

I'm not sure who will get the minutes. I don't really look at the players as much as the game flow but I think it's hard to use stats for players who played limited minutes and incoming freshman is hard to predict. I'd be happy if all of them would turn out to be superstars from day 1. Is that to much to ask?

Liestikow actually projected Baer to get minutes in his column last season. I have no doubt Moss will be ahead of Ellingson but if Moss is 9th in minutes played next year that's disappointing

This. Moss should be in consideration for starting minutes, and he is not. That coming from someone who knows the Iowa program, has information and access to the team better than anyone here. That is disappointing.

However, there is time before the season. A lot of time. And a lot can happen. There will be 6 more months, with hours spent playing with the team and tutelage from the coaches. Fingers crossed...

We need Moss to step up big time. Let's hope the coming months brings word of that happening.

Devyn Marble wasn't Devyn Marble going into his sophomore year.

I can't believe you're so high on CW, pretty much predicting him to be all conference next year when he's shown nothing and thinking he'll score more than the best recruit Fran has ever gotten will when Fran already had two bigs come in and score double digits as freshman. Add on top of that Fran hasn't really had any of his PG's score the ball since he's been here and Gesell was considered a much better scorer than CW was coming out of HS. Let me guess, you think Ellingson is the next Gatens?

Cook barely beat out Woody for best recruit. How many points per game did Woody have as a freshman? Who were our two highest ranked recruits last year? I'll give you a hint. They both red shirted.

The only reason the 2 bigs scored in double figures is because they played out of necessity because the team sucked.

And Williams didn't show nothing. He showed quite a bit in the limited minutes he played. Like someone said in another thread, he averaged the same points per minute as Gesell did.

The points per minute argument is just stupid, it's a reach when comparing players that shouldn't be compared. You're predicting a guy that played 100 minutes all season to score more than Tyler Cook who could have went anywhere he wanted. The worst part is Williams isn't even playing his natural position and nobody knows if Bohannon is going to be better than him. Just because he's 6'6 doesn't mean he's going to be a good PG, if Dom played PG would you expect him to score double digits because of his size?

Woodbury was a recruiting miss. You really think Cook is going to be a recruiting miss and Williams is a diamond in the rough? Cook as a recruit isn't comparable to Hutton or Moss, he's on an other level

I understand the point that we don't have a large sample size, but I'm with you PC.. I liked what I saw from Williams and I think he continued to gain confidence as his minutes increased. In the last 5 games of the year, he played a total of 36 minutes and scored 16 points which is pretty solid.

I believe I predicted him to be the 2nd leading scorer in another thread and i could see him right around the 10 point range. I would imagine Uhl will be right around there as well.

I don't think he will be a recruiting miss at all. I just don't think scoring is a strong part of his game right now. I'm pretty certain Williams was a diamond in the rough tho.

He impressed me down the stretch too. He looks like a playmaker to me.

Why would you think scoring wouldn't be a strong part of his game?

Just from the two times I've watched him and his stats. He doesn't look real assertive on offense. That could be because his team mate too. But until I see proof of that, my prediction will be lower. If he comes into PTL and lights it up my prediction will change. Hopefully it does.

His stats? He put up 12 ppg against high level competition, Williams only put up 18 ppg against lower level competition in high school. Wasn't Williams one of the lowest scoring guys in the PTL last year too? If you're going with stats I'm surprised you don't think Bohannon will be better than Williams, he put 7ppg more than Williams did as a senior

I'm not going on stats with Williams anymore because I've seen him play. And like I said, the two times I watched Cook play, he didn't look like a big offensive player. Not in the sense that makes me confident he will score a lot as a freshman in the Big 10. Now if he was a freshman when Basabe was a freshman, I would be predicting 12-15 a game from him probably. A lot of what I'm saying has to do with next year's team's makeup.

So Williams wasn't a scorer in High School, wasn't a scorer in the PTL and wasn't a scorer when he played last year but he'll be at 10+ ppg next season. Seems reasonable

Williams is just not a scorer and he has never has been, his points per minute were lower than Ellingson, Gesell, Woodbury, Clemmons, Uhl, Baer, Jones and Fleming. The only scholarship player he had a better points per minute then was Wagner and he barely edged him out on that.
