Does Carver Ice-cream taste great after 8pm?!? Official Northwestern/Iowa game thread

I think he was overrated as a player as well. He would do some of the dumbest things in crunch time.
Overrated? If Settles hadn't injured his back as a Sophomore IMO he would have been All-American by the time he left. He had some unreal moves around the basket, could shoot the mid-range jumper, and rebounded like a maniac.

Exactly... We are putting it away for them. Not that they need much help but it's setting up for the #2 team through 8 to just be one jumbled up mess. Kinda fun to see the chaos from where I'm sitting. I just wish we hadn't lost to Neb and PSU, MSU and that dreaded Eastern IL game. We'd be sitting pretty. Coulda shoulda woulda on all of those
Yea but we coulda shoulda lost Indiana, Michigan, and possibly the first Rutgers. Things have a way of evening out.

He's an anesthesiologist in CR.

Second, if you think that's a trophy I do NOT want to see what your porn search history looks like.
MY wife is a trophy, LOL.

This brings me to something I've had rolling around in my head for a couple weeks. Occasionally the subject of a get together for the regular posters is brought up. It was brought up again recently.

How about an idea that might actually work? Have everyone send you a captionless photo of themself, have you post them, and see if the posters can figure out who is who.

What a douche canoe narcissist! He's not sorry he got in Dave's way and he will do it again. He's basically patting himself on the back for saving Iowa athletics and creating the B1G network. And if Iowa athletics mean THAT much to a grown adult professional that he has to fly with the team as well, then either he needs to develop other hobbies or his elevator doesn't stop at every floor.. in fact the name Greg Stephen even briefly danced through my head.

I pointed out about a week ago that he isn't even on the all time top ten Iowa rebounding list, and he was a starter from the moment he arrived on campus. So he didnt always rebound like a maniac.. He was a stat stuffer, but Iowa made the NCAA's only three of the six years he was here and he had Andre Woolridge and Chris Kingsbury on some of those teams. He was a great physical specimen, but a mental midget late in close games. Unreal moves around the basket? Only if you cherish the degree of difficulty of the quintuple pump fake around the basket. I do agree the back injury was unfortunate. It ended Al Lorenzen's career as well. Settles was much better than Lorenzen though.

You wife is a trophy? Is that a participation trophy? Lol, please no details needed, lol

I do think he’s the best (TV) color commentator for Iowa basketball, though.

When he was right, he was a relentless rebounder and scorer. He average 15+ a game his first 3 seasons and over 7 boards a game. He was considered a player with an NBA future before he was injured. I watched every game he played and I have absolutely no idea, memory or recollection of him ever being a "mental midget". He didn't turn it over a lot. One of those 6 years you mentioned he only played 3 games. He was also a huge reason why Iowa made it to it's last sweet 16 (which did not feature Woolridge or Kingsbury). He's an Iowa legend and for good reason.

A few fair points. I still think his myth has outgrown his play over the years

As for NBA, he may have chisled out a few years in the 2000 era league, but would have a tough time making it today. Russ Millard was more athletic and had a skill set better suited for the league and he didn't stick.

I could point out a couple examples where his mental gears malfunctioned, but probably not enough to change your perspective. At Illinois in 1995 he threw a loose ball blindly over his head to a waiting Illinois player when all he had to do was wait to get fouled or get it to Woolridge to dribble out the clock. Illinois scored to get it into overtime and won in OT.

As for his last season, your correct that it was our last sweet sixteen. That was a weird team that got contributions from numerous unsung players all season long that just happened to mesh into a greater whole than the sum of the parts. Hell. Sam Okey even played five or six games for that team before breaking his hand.

Oh his legend has definitely grown, but when he was good, he was a force. I can be convinced of anything and I have an open mind. I mean, I could pick random mistakes to hang guys on as well. He wasn't perfect by any means but I don't think he had more mental issues or lapses than anyone else. I don't remember people being like "OMG Jess, you can't make those types of plays in this situation" but I am sure there were some, but that happens to a lot of players. He was the B1G freshman of the year, and he was wildly considered an NBA prospect until he was hurt.

Great 1st round here in Denver in 99, was as fun as it gets winning 2 and beating Arkansas. MaCausland was en fuego and we dominated the glass. Fun fun team.

Jess' First 3 years when healthy. 15 and 7 while playing under 28 mins per game. (Mr. Davis playing 9-10 guys, crazy subbing patterns). Definitely not over rated but maybe his legend has grown throughout the years.

35% plus from 3 and close around 80% free throw shooter.
61% from 2 as a freshman and 57% overall. Pretty damn impressive.

Lots of guys stepped up and had their moments on that team. McCausland like you mentioned. Familiar names like Settles, Dean Oliver, JR Koch. More obscure names like Ryan Luehrsman, Jason Bauer, Guy Rucker, Joey Range, Jacob Jaacks. Duez Henderson was a freshman on that team.

Read the entire post. I think it would be fun, and doable, if @Fryowa agrees. Hell, throw in pictures of you and your wife as well.
Doesn't matter to me if folks send pictures in of themselves, as long as they have clothes on. I ain't gonna, but you guys are more than welcome.

Before anyone gets the bright idea to post joke adult/nudie pictures, don't.

Wasn't Ruckers freshman yr with Andre Woolridge? I seem to remember those two doing damage together.

Well, beyond a shadow of a doubt

Peyton is the Player of the Game

I have had his back from Jump

Kinda feel like I am wasting my time on this site

Will continue to give likes when warranted

Adios, Amigos

Well, that didn't come out right. I am just going to take a Hiatus for a while

Few health issues need to be addressed right now, nothing serious, but time-consuming

Upcoming Colonoscopy, the second one, first was fine,

Need new hearing aids, and due for an exam

Just developed tendonitis in my other shoulder

Just need to handle the issues one at a time

Still in almost perfect health, considering my age, low blood pressure, usually 90/120

Clear lungs, never smoked even one cigarette

After school in the seventh grade at All Saints grade school, the lads asked me if I wanted
a drag on a cigarette

I said, No, they insisted:

I took a drag and it felt like someone smashed me in the chest with a sledhammer

Handed the damn thing back to them, Said: you guys knock yourselves Out

This was in 1957

It's all going to be Good, Lads

You guys are the greatest

Later on and farther out
