Does Beathard Have Ferentz By The ----s?

Boy, say what you will, but this chess(t) match is kind of fun to watch. Say it aint so, is this really happening, 12 games into the season and there is still an apparent QB competition? What coaching staff still has an open competition 12 games into the season. Shouldn't you know who you are at this point in the season?

Now comes the Beathard camp making chess moves to a coach that historically keeps a tight ship and you do things on Iowa's terms. I don't know how it's going to work out in the end, but this is rather entertaining to say the least. ;)

It's a classless move by CJ and his Dad. If you don't like the shot you are getting then transfer. But don't give a F'ing ultimatum to your son's coach via your hometown paper. That is something you just don't do.

It's like a helicopter dad of a 10 year old that thinks his 10U coach isn't playing his son enough at shortstop.

I think that this is a smart move and a last resort by CJ. I am sure Ferenz will go the other way, at his own risk.

Agreed

Once again, this probably will not end well for the Iowa fans...I don't see KF caving to outside pressure by CJs family, especially in the light of going public now. He will more than likely now not play CJ at all to highlight his stance ...even at the peril of losing the game.

disagree, respectfully of course.

Ferentz will play CJ in the bowl, let him work with the 1's during spring practice and most of fall camp. Then when next year begins, Jake will be named the starter and Ferentz will sit back and laugh as he keeps all of us updated on Jake's daunting class schedule full of classes that Kurt could never pass.

CJ moved all-in and KF called it as quickly as he moved all-in.

I think we all know how this plays out for CJ, he is done at Iowa ..

ferentz will simply play the guy who earned it. And it will be so close that he'll go with status quo, to hell with the ceiling.

As suggested by BHGP, the chances that this ultimatum will work are slim. That being said, I'm enjoying this. It will be sad to sad if CJ leaves, but Kirk deserves every bit of this.

There have been far too many "why the hell aren't you putting your backup in" moments this year. The use of Rudock at some points this season has defied logic. With any other team in FBS CJ would have seen more playing time during the regular season.

If I was CJB and I was already thinking potential transfer last year, or throughout this season, I think I'd be gone given the way I rode the pine despite JR struggling horribly at times, despite this supposed "QB competition" and the fact that I was supposed to see "meaningful minutes", but did not.

Let's say KF starts me in the bowl game - so what? What if I come back next year instead of transferring, and JR is KF's #1 guy again, and I'm on the bench, having burned yet another year of eligibility? Is it just pandering to keep me around, because KF needs a backup?

That's the stuff that would be going through my mind right now, but maybe I think differently than other people.

I think we can kiss CJB goodbye in that case.

That's kind of my point with the thread. No matter what happens, the CJ camp kind of put KF in a precarious situation. If he plays CJ and Beathard does well, KF looks bad because he didn't play him all season. If KF is too proud & saves face & doesn't play him, CJ transfers (prob along with a couple more players) & KF looks bad because he didn't utilize and play the best talent.

KF is pretty much screwed & between a rock and a hard spot.

I think KF put HIMSELF in that position by sticking with JR through thick and thin no matter how poorly things were going at times, and by indicating that CJB would see some time in certain games, but did not, even with JR struggling.

If you have no intention of playing CJB, then don't say things like that. Just the way I see it.

What's classless is lying to a kid in the preseason and all season saying that he was going to play, and then not play him. Good for the Beathard's. The media certainly has no balls to hold KF accountable, glad someone is. If my kid got lied to for a full year in order to keep him from transferring and got disrespected the way he did publicly right after the Pitt game I would do the same thing. Come into my living room and say you're going to do something and then lie and disrespect my kid. Yeah that's class Hoffa. Clueless as usual man. Keep up the good work.

I don't think he's going to cave either, just not his style & he won't change. With the Willies situation, what is it going to look like in the end when Willies transfers along with Beathard, Daniels and who else knows? I think there could potentially be 3-5 big names leaving in the end. Often times, a sign to the end of a coaches reign is player retainment.

Oh, I definitely agree. I've been saying that all year. KF has been playing CJ like a puppet all year and finally CJ & co said I'm not going to be played like a puppet anymore.

You can disagree with KF but you really should be careful at saying he lied. You don't know that and I really doubt its true

I don't find it classless at all. What I find classless is the following:

1. Embarassing a young man on national tv after the Nebraska game last year for doing a QB sneak for a last minute TD.
2. Embarassing a young man on national tv after the Pitt game this year by bringing up a bad practice....as if he's the only player that ever had a bad practice.
3. Convincing a young man to stay with a team by promising a shot at a starting job, then never once having a true open competition for said job.
4. Never once extolling the virtues of a young man when asked without also bringing up the virtues of the guy who he's trying to replace.
5. Publicly telling fans (and the young man, by default) that playing time would be coming and then never playing him.
6. Throwing a young man out for meaningless snaps and then calling a bullspit option play that ends up getting him hurt....all for no reason whatsoever.
7. Saying a young man "could" start the bowl game and then subsequently treating it like the biggest joke and troll job while getting a good chuckle out of it.

And let's not forget the "fart" jokes, the countless "that's football" instead of legitimate reasons for getting your a$$ handed to you time and time again by lesser teams, the "I wouldn't use the term unacceptable" to describe the 2014 season when your AD just described the season as unacceptable.

Shall I go on?

Now remind me....who's the classless one in this scenario of yours?
