Grade's Kinnick's tradition as a 7 out of 10...not sure how he was grading this, as in history of what has happened on the field...but if its tied to actual history, being named after a war veteran who died while serving the nation who was a Heisman trophy winner and gave arguably one of the most stirring Heisman speeches of all time...perhaps higher than a 7 in my book. But I am biased and my Dodd radar is still on ;)

Can't complain about the ranking, although he is still a d-bag. I did unfortunately give him a clickthru.

Actually I have to agree with the 7 Jon.

While Kinnick stadium has the name, it lacks that "bigger than life" tradition... like the dotting of the I at Ohio St, Touchdown Jesus, The 12th man, etc.

Kinnick's speech is one for the ages, but I'm not sure you can incorporate it as "stadium tradition". It's a recorded message. And we only started playing it over the last few years. (I'd like to see it inscribed on his statue).

If you go to some of these other stadiums you anticipate the Dotting of the "I", the Sooner Schooner, the huge "Go Blue" banner, the 5th quarter, you see Touchdown Jesus looking down, the "rock" at Clemson. Kinnick has great tradition, but it's not top 10. At least not to an outsider.

I think history and tradition were pretty accurate, if not spot-on, then too high.

Architecture I thought was way too low, unless he's only considering aesthetics. The stadium's design is WHY it is so intimidating, even when compared to stadiums that seat 90,000+.

The Northwestern fans are ecstatic that Ryan Field West was given such high honors. They are also complaining about tradition only being 7, their consensus seems to be that given Northwestern's huge win there in 2009, the tradition should be ranked at least at an 8.

What does Dodd know? For a journalist who spouts off about Ferentz and the University concerning the 13 hospitalized footballs players without knowing even a small percentage of the facts makes me think his rankings is just another "whistling in the wind" opinion to be taken lightly.

ANY ranking of stadiums like this is just something to take lightly, regardless of who's doing it. I thought he pretty well nailed it, except for architecture (but I don't know what his emphasis was on that, whether functionality or aesthetics).

I find it hard to believe a USC game at the coliseum ranks as a better experience than even a game at Jack-Trice stadium.

it was a 7 out of 10 because we aren't in the SEC and ESPN caters to everything SEC , even thought their tradition is garbage.

Agreed. That's the one I disagreed with most. I don't care how many Heisman winners they've had. The stadium is half empty for most games and there's only atmosphere for the biggest of games. Not much of a "college" vibe.

Been to all the Big 10 stadiums including NE on several occasions. Thought he was pretty much on target with most of his Big 10 ranking. I don't think PSU, NE, WI, or MI have anything on Iowa as far as atmosphere and fans however so I might move things around a bit.

As far as actually viewing a game in the stands......hard to beat Kinnick with the close proximity to the field.
