Do we want Anthony Tucker back?

Anthony Tucker has been cleared by the university to return to the basketball team if Lickliter wants him back on the team.

I'm starting to wonder if we don't even want Tucker back till next year, it seems the team is starting to get into a rhythm of playing good teams close ( Michigan State, OSU) and winning the winnable games (Penn State, Indiana).

Yes Tucker is very talented and a great player, but i think he might interrupt the teams flow right now.

I disagree with the part in bold. We haven't seen enough to say he's great, and his defense and ball-handling leave a lot to be desired. If he was so great, this team wouldn't be doing better without him as you stated earlier.

Stupid OP. I truly can't believe that anyone in their right mind wouldn't want another capable body on this team. Hell I would probably pull the redshirt off of Archie if he was healthy as we still have 1/3 of the season remaining and any experience gained this year will lend to a better year.

We aren't going to a post season this year, we are still rebuilding a program - God I hate that excuse, but it's what we are doing. Any game experience, any time spent passing the ball, any time spend building a unit is going to lend itself to next years squad.

Why anyone wouldn't want Tucker back is beyond me.

Does anyone remember what happened during the Davis era ? Sam Okey started playing at the start of the second semester and it seemed to screw up the whole rotation. If I remember right we never won a game that he played in. He was a talent but the team seemed to play better before he joined the squad and again after he broke his hand. I hope the same thing doesn't happen with Tucker.

I would hate to see Tucker do the same thing to Iowa this year, I think Lickliter should let him back on the team next year and give him another fresh start while keeping him on a very short leash.

I completely agree. We talk about lack of depth on our team, but are worried about bringing someone else back in the mix that should know how to run offense. He does need to play better defense and have more urgency while playing. I'm guessing that is getting tested in practice.

I.O.W.A = Idiots Out Walking Around. Please go back inside.

Okey played in 7 games for Iowa during the 98-99 season. During those 7 games we went 3-4. He didn't play in the last 4 regular season games or the BT tournament or the NCAAs for us. That was a sweet 16 tournament team. It was Mr. Davis's last season at Iowa and it was the last time we made a run in the tournament.

So yeah, I too would hate to see Tucker do the same thing to Iowa (rolling eyes).

Hypothetically, if Iowa did win the BTT, I think we'd see the first 15/16 seed ever from a major conf.

I would be pulling for a 16 seed if that was the case. The 1 seed would be so confused by what we were doing we might make a game of it. 1st time a 1 would lose in the 1st round. I wouldn't object to seeing Iowa tied to it if they are the 16. :p

I see where you are coming from as I had the same thoughts about the teams rhythm. I wondered myself that seems like they play more fluid with his absence. But, I don't know if this is mostly due to them getting used to each other as a whole. But, Iowa is in no position to turn down another body, especially at the position of guard & ball-handling guard at that. They currently have Payne & a walk-on Licklighter to handle the ball. Coach has put his son in as need, but, he has done a very good job of filling in for the most part. Hasn't hurt the team too much. But, point is that Iowa really needs the additional body at that position. I still see little Lick getting a few minutes a game after Tucker is back.

I don't want him back if it means May goes to the bench. IF he comes off the bench and works hard than I don't have a problem with it this year. The real debate though is would we be better dropping his scholarship after this year and take a kid who can help us with perimeter defense and ball-handling a bit more and who hasn't let his teammates down three times.

Payne is really the only legitimate PG, so I don't think he will take his spot. He will spell Payne at PG when Payne goes out.

My line-up would be

Payne
Gatens
May
Cole
Fuller

Tucker would come off the bench in lieu of the problems he had to spell May and/or Fuller. Also to move over to PG when Payne nees rest.

Yes we want Tucker back, but as a sub, hopefully that will limit 'lil Lick's playing time.
Probably a great kid, but not big ten talent.
