Flying down for the Texas Vs Nation All-Star game Jan 29th. Puttin tha hawkeye helmet on one last time #3tds

Hmmm. How's everyone feeling about him putting on the TigerHawk representing Iowa in all-star game?? I have a feeling I'm going to be in the minority, but I got no big issue with it. No matter if he wears the tigerhawk or some generic helmet they'll bring up the negative issues anyways, so might as will have him wear the tigerhawk and get the exposure. I have a feeling it may not happen, but he seems to think it will. Thoughts???

Given that he is no longer a member of the team, my guess is this is a moot point because the university will not let him do it.

Wondering how he can represent the University of Iowa when he was kicked off the team and presumably is no longer affiliated with the program. It's more than just appearances: legal issues, liability, insurance coverage if he gets hurt, etc.

if Montel Marion is allowed to come back on the wrasslin team, I see no issue at all with Derrell wearing an Iowa helmet.

if they didnt allow Iowa football players who've used drugs to wear Iowa helmets in all star games, there'd be a couple more guys looking for a helmet this year.

I have a hard time believing the University of Iowa/Football Staff does NOT have a problem with it.

DJK was dismissed, and I quote, "from all team activities". I would assume this includes wearing a University of Iowa helmet, complete with TigerHawk logo, to a post-season all-star game.

Do I, personally, have a problem with it? Certainly not enough to call/write/e-mail anyone to complain. But DJK made his own bed.

ON THE OTHER HAND...if the University is giving permission, I'm all right with that...because I assume that being "dismissed" did NOT mean, "We wish to hinder any and all attempts by DJK to get get his life on track and in order"

I have no problem with it either. On the field DJK always represented Iowa passion and hard hard work. I loved to watch him play.

always?

And yeah, let's tee one up for DJK, who always had Iowa 1st on his priority list.

he won't be wearing an Iowa helmet in any official game. I can't imagine that. But, how is he going to be stopped? Unless the people putting on the game don't allow him to.

I don't really care if DJK wears an Iowa helmet.

To the people who are against him wearing it, are you against Clayborn wearing his at all-star games?

Say what you want about DJK, but it's clear he didn't "lose his will to win" like AC.

AC lost his will to win? When did that happen. By all accounts he played half the season with an injury and was double-teamed al year. That's a pretty big charge.

Given that kids doctor up their helmets with all kinds of logos and decals from other schools for these games, I would guess that the schools offer a broad license to the promoters of the games for the participants to use their logos. If some kid who plays for another school can toss a tager hawk on his helmet, why couldn't DJK?

Worst post in the history of this board. Yikes, that is an incredible feat.

I'm fine with it. Has he screwed things up for himself? Absolutely. That doesn't mean he can't represent the program in a positive way.

Let's face facts here. DJK was a Hawkeye, is a Hawkeye, always will be a Hawkeye. Whether we all like it or not. No problem with him wearing the helmet at the game.

IIRC DJK was suspended from all team activities, not dismissed from the team.

This game will not be a team activity, and I think he is technically still a member of the team.

He started and finished his college career as a Hawkeye; but unfortunately, due to poor judgement and off the field actions, he was unable to play in the bowl game a may spend some time behind bars.

Keep in mind he hasn't been convicted yet. Whether you are currently proud of this simple fact or not, he's now and will always be a member of the Hawkeye family. It's like having someone in your family get in trouble with the law - you can't change his name. It's who he is.

Family support would be best.

I'm torn I guess. Does it affect me that he will be wearing a tigerhawk logo? Not in the least. I'm wondering how I'll react if he tears it up in that game. Will I cheer for him if he nabs a sweet TD? Not sure.

You are correct, but lets also face the facts that DJK caused some problems for this team in the locker room. Not to mention the black eye he gave the Iowa football team and university. Personally, I could care less what helmet he'll be wearing at an all-star game.

He was dismissed.
