Des Moines Lincoln High School Coach Update

I played for Tom M. and he made me pancakes once! This is a bunch of crap! I feel like someone took a crap, or a dump and put it on my desk.

Seems like a bad situation for everyone involved. Coach should of known better, but I was holding out hope he'd be reinstated with other forms of punishment. I'll be curious to see if any similar cases pop up going forward using this as a basis. There a lot of disappointed Mihalovich supporters today.
Here's a tweet from Jordan this morning and I'm sure there are a lot of former players who feel the same way.

I've always been a proud Lincoln Alum, but I cannot back them after this. LHS gets no more support or respect. I'm with Coach Mihalovich!

Well of course JB is on his side. He let his brother attack and intimidate other students on the team.

Anyone that is capable of naming an exercise the Chris Street drill gets no sympathy from me. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

He didn't. Read the report.

However, I agree with good riddance.

guy getting fired for something he did that was common place even 15 years ago.

He was fired for lying (repeatedly) to investigators, interfering with the investigation (walking off with the investigator's notes), threatening critics, stealing team equipment after being placed on leave, and ignoring repeated written reprimands over a multi-year period. Was that "commonplace 15 years ago"?

The incident with the kid was maybe 10% of the problem. It was the impetus for the investigation, but you could have thrown it out completely. In fact, the report shows the mother lied. I don't live in Iowa, knew nothing about this going in, and personally favor giving coaches great leeway on discipline including physical discipline... but after reading the report it's obvious this clown would have been fired from any company in America.

Stop being so lazy and read the actual report. He wasn't fired for making a kid run hills.

Can you explain which part a group of independant investigators were confirmed by multiple sources including his own high school players and coaches were made up Tom???

I agree with this 100%

Yeah I'm getting annoyed by all the post about "how this will kill coaching and they can't make people run.. ect ect"

I understand why people are coming to that conclusion but it's not really about that. I've known about some of these things for nearly 10 years from people in coaching and players. The district has wanted him out for awhile he just finally gave them something to push it far enough to a hearing. Also people are afraid of this guy. A lot more people would come forward about things with him but they are actually fearfull of him. That's the way he controls - intimidate and bully. Sure, many coaches have a little bully in them; However he is 95% that way and its just too much.

Away from the field I think he is not that bad but when he gets near anywhere near football he loses all perspective and he isn't the first nor last coach to have that problem.

Did anyone else listen to the former Coach on Murph and Andy today?

Did it change your opinion on this situation if so how and why?

I listened...still don't care. Just another unemployed South-sider to pay for.

I live on the southside, so I can't argue with that. Definitely a lot of unemployed people over here. However, when it comes to tax dollars, you have to remember that Mihalovich paid for a lot of stuff over the years out of his own pocket. He estimated a little over hundred thousand over 12 years. If that's true, I think he's as entitled to unemployment as the next guy.

If that's true, I think he was getting paid too much to coach high school football.

As someone who has coached multiple sports at a 3A school for 27 years..... it's not surprising how many of these 'situations' (someone doing things they just shouldn't) - are from coaches who are teachers. There is a difference between those who are in the classroom everyday and those who are not.

That being said - DM Lincoln is the 2nd largest high school in the state and there is not 1 person in the entire building that

1) either wants to be a Head Football Coach

or

2) has the ability to be a Head Football Coach.

Not Good....
